Bojan Dubljevic - Valencia Basket - EC13 (photo Cimberio Varese - Simone Raso)Valencia Basket got back to its winning ways with a dominating performance and 13 three-pointers, defeating last-place Cimberio Varese 62-94 on Wednesday night. Win improves Valencia to 5-4 in the third place of Group C, and in order to advance to the Last 32, it will need to beat Asvel at home in a winner-takes-all showdown next week. Meanwhile, Cimberio drops to 1-8 in the last place. Valencia took control with a 2-20 run in the second quarter, taking 27-39 halftime lead, and did not allow the hosts to come closer than 10 points the rest of the way. Pau Ribas paced the winners with 23 points on 5 of 7 three-point shooting. Bojan Dubljevic had 20 points plus 8 rebounds, Justin Doellman had 16, and Serhiy Lishchuk had 10 points for Valencia. Frank Hassell scored 14 points for the hosts, Adrian Banks had 13, and Dusan Sakota finished with 10 in defeat.

Ebi Ere and Keydren Clark hit back-to-back at the start of the game for 8-2, but Valencia responded with 7 points from Doellman to grab 12-13 lead. Ribas and Sakota traded triples to end the first quarter 17-16, and a pair of buckets from Banks made it 23-16 early in the second. But the visitors replied with a huge 2-20 run, as Doellman hit twice from downtown, while Rafa Martinez and Dubljevic had a triple apiece, as Valencia took 27-39 halftime lead. The visitors extended it to 16 points at the start of the second half, before Achille Polonara and Martinez traded triples. Hassell and Banks scored next 12 points for the hosts, but Dubljevic and Oliver Lafayette hit from downtown for Valencia and 42-58. Sakota hit a three-pointer for Cimberio, but Ribas scored from long range at the end of the third and at the start of the fourth for 49-68. With game out of reach, Hassell kept hustling for the hosts, and Clark hit a jumper, but Dubljevic and Juan Jose Triguero combined to score next 15 points for Valencia, before Ribas hit couple of triples and Martinez sank one, too, as margin reached 33 points in the final minute.

FRATES, FABRIZIO
Cimberio Varese
"I am happy about our first and third quarters but the physical and athletic difference between both teams made the difference. We were not in the best condition without Rush and De Nicolao, which forces us to use Polonara at small forwards for many playing, having to deal with players with great technical skills and big experience in European competitions."
PERASOVIC, VELIMIR
Valencia Basket Club
"We wanted to win to feel good in the Eurocup on the road. We all knew that it all depends on the last game, but we were solid for the best part of the game. The game was more difficult than it looked like. We broke the game in the second half, getting a good lead. Still, we have to win our last game at home to make it to the next round."
