Real Madrid recorded a 74-70 win over host team CB L'Hospitalet in the second game of Group D to take a 1-0 record in the Ciutat de L'Hospitalet tournament on Monday evening in L'Hospitalet, Spain. Madrid will face Cajasol Tuesday in a winner-takes-all group match. The winner of the group will qualify for the semifinals on Wednesday and remain in the run for the top spot on the podium. The winner of the tournament will join Zalgiris Kaunas in the 2010 edition of the Nike International Junior Tournament held during the Euroleague Final Four in Paris, France. Two more teams will join in addition qualifying tournaments in February. Madrid came back from a 20-point deficit late in the second quarter and used a 7-2 run in the closing minutes to decide the game after a tough 40 minutes. The winners got 26 points and 9 rebounds from Daniel Diaz de la Faya and Daniel Busto added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Albert Olmedo led led the hosts with 16 points, Alex Igual added 15 and Victor Chica 12.

After dropping the first game of the day to Cajasol, the host side knew it was now or never to stay in the race and that knowledge spoke in the first minutes when it took a 0-9 lead and increased it to 2-14 as Olmedo already collected 7 points. Diaz de la Faya drew fouls and collected points from the foul line, but it wasn't much of a help as the first quarter finished with L'Hospitalet up by 15-26. Igual scored from close range and added a dunk to make it a 20-point game, 19-39, close to the halftime break, but Madrid strung together 6 points in a row to get within 25-39 by halftime. The run continued after the teams resumed the play and Diaz de la Faya dunked when his team glued another 6 points together to cut the gap to just 8 after a 12-0 run. Oldemo was active around the rims, but Diaz de la Faya scored from behind the arc and Busto added a three point play to bring Madrid within 42-43 midway through the third quarter. L'Hospitalet took off again, but Real moved closer once more before Diaz de la Faya tied the score at 53-53 a minute inside the closing quarter. The lead changed hands repeatedly with big plays by Igual on one side and Busto on the other, as time ticked down and pressure picked up. Olmedo's free throws inside the last two minutes gave L'Hospitalet its last lead, 67-68, but Diaz de la Faya led the decisive 7-2 run to eliminate L'Hospitalet from the race to the top spot in Group D.
