Real Madrid jumped to 2-0 in Group A of the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT with a dominant 79-51 victory over Baloncesto Seville in an all-Spanish clash in L’Hospitalet. Madrid used runs of 13-0 and 12-2 in the second quarter to pull away for good. Jonathan Barreiro paced Madrid with 14 points and seven rebounds while Santiago Yusta had 12 points, Guillermo Mulero scored 11 points, Luka Doncic had eight points and eight assists and Emanuel Cate chipped in two points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Seville, which won the Rome qualifying tournament last winter, dropped to 1-1 in the group despite 10 points, four rebounds and three steals from Malik Eichler while Carlos Hidalgo collected seven points, six assists and three steals.

Seville jumped ahead 0-4 and had its last lead at 4-6. Barreiro nailed a three as Madrid went ahead 9-6 and he had scored nine points as Real was up 13-8. The score was 15-8 after 10 minutes. Domagoj Proleta pushed the cushion to 17-8 before Eduardo Perez de la Blanca cut the deficit to 19-14. Felipe Dos Anjos extended the lead for Madrid to 24-14. Jose Antonio Blazquez answered with a three-pointer before a Mulero three-ball started a 13-0 run which also included triples by Proleta and Barreiro for a 37-17 lead. Carlos Garcia hit a three-ball to stop the run and Mulero scored five more points to get the deficit down to 44-22. But Yusta nailed back-to-back treys in a 12-2 close to the first half for Madrid, which led 52-24 at intermission.

Madrid continually extended the lead throughout the third quarter with Doncic making it 54-24, a Yusta trey increasing it to 57-26 and Tomeu Rico scoring for a 63-31 advantage. Blazquez trimmed the gap to 28 points before Proleta’s layup had Madrid up 68-35 after 30 minutes. Real struggled to score in the fourth quarter as Blazquez and Eichler scored to trim the deficit to 68-39. Madrid finally scored on two free throws by Miki Fons with 5:53 minutes left to make it 70-39. Eichler added six more points in chipping away at the lead to 70-48 with three minutes to play. That was as close as Seville would get the rest of the way.
