Loimaa, the first Finnish team to ever play the Eurocup, went up to 1-0 in Group H. Frank Robinson and Billy Keys paced the winners with 14 points apiece. Mikko Koivisto added 11 while Justin Hawkins had 10 for Loimaa. Valdas Vasylius led Neptunas with 14 points. Edgaras Ulanovas added 12 while Marius Runkauskas and Martynas Mazeika each had 11 for the guests, which led 15-16 after 10 minutes. Keys stepped up for Loimaa, getting some help from Koivisto and Tuukka Kotti for a 28-21 lead, enough got the hosts to lead 30-25 at halftime. Loimaa led all the way from that moment but Runkauskas and Andrew Smith managed to bring Neptunas within 59-58 with a minute remaining. Keys and Koivisto combined for 4-of-4 free throws in the final 12 seconds, allowing Loimaa to celebrate a truly historical win.

Kotti got Loimaa going but Smith and Ulanovas soon gave Neptunas a 4-7 edge. Robinson tried to change things for the hosts but Vasylius kept Neptunas ahead, 9-13. Robinson and Justin Hawkins stepped up late in the first quarter to bring Loimaa within 15-16 after 10 minutes. Billy Keys had 5 points in a 7-0 run which allowed Loimaa to regain the lead, 22-17. Neptunas struggled to score while Mikko Koivisto and an outstanding Kotti boosted their team's lead to 28-21. Vasylius scored again and a layup by Mazeika kept Neptunas within 30-25 at halftime. Mazeika scored twice after the break and a layup by Vytautas Sarakauskas completed the guests' comeback, 30-31. Neptunas kept running its offense through Sarakauskas but a jumper by Keys put Loimaa back ahead, 37-35. Robinson followed a jumper with a layup and three-pointers by Antto Nikkarinen and Justin Hawkins allowed the hosts to keep a 47-44 edge after 30 minutes. Kotti and Keys made it a seven-point game, 51-44, early in the fourth quarter. Smith tried to change things for Neptunas and back-to-back triples by Runkauskas gave the guests hope at 56-52. He got help from David McClure and Smith to make it a one-point game, 59-58, with a minute left. Keys made free throws for a 61-58 score with 12 seconds to go. Runkauskas split foul shots and Koivisto sealed the outcome with free throws, as a final triple by Vasylius was not enough for Neptunas.

Head Coaches

GIBSON, GREGORY
Bisons Loimaa
"Our defense was the key. We weren't that good offensively in the beginning, but I've always said that good defense can take you far in basketball. I'm proud of our grinding and persistence. Also, fans were fantastic. They were a big part of our win today."
MAKSVYTIS, KAZYS
Neptunas Klaipeda
"I want to congratulate Bisons. We lost in the first half but played better in the second. But I'm sad and disappointed because we lost."

Players

MAKALAINEN, VILLE
Bisons Loimaa
"It was a great game. I don't think it was nervousness or anything like that, but in the beginning both teams had some difficulties. The tempo was pretty much what we expected and you can tell that teams don't score a lot in this series."
