CSU Asesoft Ploiesti showed its mettle by holding off Valencia Basket for an 87-92 road win. It was the Romanian champs’ first Last 32 victory and moved it into a three-way tie with Valencia and SLUC Nancy for second-place in Group N at 1-2. Kreso Loncar led Valencia with 19 points, Bojan Dubljevic scored 17, Vladimir Lucic 15 and Luke Harangody 10 in defeat.

CSU Asesoft jumped out to a 2-7 lead on Hayes’s layup and further extended it on a Jonte Flowers’s triple. Guillem Vives hit a go-ahead three for the hosts and a Harangody three made it 18-14. The lead changed hands three more times before Hayes free throws ended the first quarter at 21-22. Hayes fueled the CSU Asesoft attack to maintain a slim lead for the visitors, which reached 30-35 midway through the second quarter. The difference remained in the 3-5 points range until Mohammed ended the half with a triple that put his team ahead 41-47.

Runkauskas connected from behind the arc as the visitors remained ahead. The difference was cut to 2 on three occasions, but Runkauskas scored 10 points in the third quarter to help his team hold a 62-67 lead at its end. Chris Cooper’s three-point play put the visitors up 8 early in the fourth quarter. Loncar twice cut the difference to 3 before Nemanja Nedovic’s triple tied the game at 77-77 with 4:30 remaining. The game would be tied again at 79-79, 83-83 and 85-85, the last coming on Loncar free throws with 1:45 to go. Hayes’s tip in put Asesoft back ahead. It came down to the final seconds when Runkauskas and Michalis Pelekanos each made 2 free throws and Cooper rejected Vives as the visitors claimed a big win.

"This is a very tough loss, especially because of the way we played. We were not steady on defense at any time. They got away when they played one-on-one and we didn't play defense in the most important situations. It looked like they would hit a shot every time the clock was running out, but it all started by not playing tough and not being focused. We didn't get into the foul bonus in all four quarters and that says a lot about the way we played, waiting for our opponent to make mistakes, which never happened. This is a very dangerous loss which forces us to beat them on the road. This team eliminated Partizan and Hapoel Jerusalem. It is not a team we can overlook by its name. They are talented, but the fact that we were not solid at any time is very dangerous, because even when we got the lead, we cannot expect our opponent to make mistakes."
ARNAUTOVIC, VLADIMIR
CSU Asesoft Ploiesti
"We came here without our starting point guard to play on a Euroleague team’s court so I tried to make my team relaxed. To score 92 points in a place like Valencia is something very good; I don't know if we are going to advance, but now I only care that I am happy with what we've done today. "

"Tough loss at home. We need a win in the next game on the road and it´s not gonna be easy. Maybe we need to win at least the three next games to get to the next round. We put ourselves in a big problem and we must get out of this situation."
MOHAMMED, ALHAJI
CSU Asesoft Ploiesti
"This was a great victory for us. We lost our best point guard the day before the game, but we came out and played hard against a top team. We wanted to play hard for ourselves and also we have a guy called Tony Alexe that died ten years ago, that played for this team and we wanted to play for him too. "
