Lasme leads Galatasaray to blowout of Szolnoki Olaj

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul grabbed a share of first place in Group N with an 87-59 blowout of Szolnoki Olaj. The game was essentially decided after an 18-0 run in the first quarter helped the hosts build a 20-point lead after 10 minutes. The visitors never got closer than 13 the rest of the way with the lead peaking at 31 in the fourth quarter. Blake Schilb scored 24 points on 4-of-4 shooting from downtown and Stephane Lase posted 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks in improving Galatasaray’s record to 2-1 in the Last 32. Sinan Guler made 4 of 5 threes for 17 points and Vladimir Micov added 10 points for the winners. Szolnoki, which fell to 1-2, got 15 points from Strahinja Milosevic and 12 apiece from Stanley Burrell and Krisztian Wittmann.

Schilb and Milosevic started the scoring for their respective teams and the visitors led 4-6 after Akos Keller’s first bucket, but then Galatasaray cracked down. Szolnoki was held scoreless for nearly four minutes as Guler, Micov and Schilb all scored twice in an 18-0 charge. Jarrod Jones and Burrell came to Szolnoki’s rescue, but Galatasaray continued to score at will. Threes by Goksenin Koksal and Guler made it 30-12. And Schilb put the hosts up 34-14 after 10 minutes. Schilb’s second and third triples extended the lead to 22. Milosevic heated up with 7 points in a 2-11 run that drew Szolnoki within 42-29. Guler responded with 5 straight points, but a Wittmann triple and Burrell layup ended the half with Szolnoki down 48-34.

Galatasaray came out for the second half ready to put the game to bed. Szolnoki was held scoreless for five minutes as Galatasaray reeled off 13 straight points – 4 each from Micov and Lasme – to take a 27-point lead. A pair of baskets by Wittmann helped get the Szolnoki attack moving and David Vojvoda scored his first 3 points, but Micov free throws had the hots cruising at 70-48 through three quarters. Lasme scored twice and Safak Edge added a three to push the lead to 29 early in the fourth quarter. Lasme stayed hot to give Galatasaray its biggest lead, 81-50. Burrell and Wittmann helped Szolnoki limit the damage down the stretch.

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul
"We have three missing players, but started very well against Szolnoki Olaj. Our starting five scored 34 points in the first quarter. And after the first quarter our young players joined the game. In the second half, we managed the game. Now, we have two wins in Group N. We have to win next week in Hungary."
POR, PETER
Szolnoki Olaj
"First of all, I want to congratulate Galatasaray Odeabank. They were really aggressive in defense. We tried to close the point difference, but we couldn't. We are not used to that high-level game."
