The first place Nizhny Novgorod moves to the Last 32 with a road win, after beating PAOK Thessaloniki 52-60 on Wednesday. PAOK learned before the tip-off it has lost mathematical chances to advance, and has finished the season in the fourth place of Group F with 5-5 record. Nizhny Novgorod, which previously secured the first place, finishes the regular season with 8-2 record. The visitors took control of the game by holding the hosts to only 3 points in the second quarter for 24-29 halftime lead, and then used a 2-15 run bridging the third and fourth quarter to pull away. Primoz Brezec paced the winners with 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Semen Antonov amassed 14 points plus 11 rebounds for Nizhny. Georgios Dedas netted 11, and Michalis Tsairelis had 10 points in defeat.

Tsairelis and Kostas Charalampidis hit triples for the starting 10-6 lead, and after Brezec strung together 6 points for the visitors, D.J Cooper and Tsairelis fueled a 9-1 spurt, capped with a three-pointer from Leonidas Kaselakis for 21-13. Nizhny opened the second quarter with a 0-8 run as Evgeny Baburin nailed a pair of three-pointers and the hosts were without a basket for almost 5 minutes until Charalampidis hit a triple. But Dmitriy Khvostov and Brandon Paul hit more from downtown for the visitors, and Paul added a fastbreak layup for 24-29 at halftime. Brezec scored 8 points, and Antonov made a pair of layups to open 31-41 lead midway through the third, but the hosts cut it to 39-41 with back-to-back triples from Dedas. But three-pointers from Antonov late in the third and early in the fourth helped Nizhny back to a double-digit lead, and Baburin hit from downtown as margin reached 41-56. Dedas hit a three-pointer for PAOK, but Antonov and Vladimir Ivlev kept the visitors with a double-digit margin before Evangelos Margaritis rounded out the scoring with a triple with a minute to go.

Head Coaches

MARKOPOULOS, SOULIS
PAOK Thessaloniki
"You can never get the concentration you need when the result is of no importance. We could have qualified if we had been more careful against Ankara at home, and against Khimik on the road. It's a problem that we are allowing many threes at critical points. We now have to get together as a team, and focus on the rest of the season."
LUKIC, ZORAN
Nizhny Novgorod
"It's very difficult to play games that bear absolutely no significance to the group, but we had to finish honestly and that's what we did. At the end, we are happy to have gotten the victory and we now can focus on the next round of the Eurocup and the VTB League. PAOK is a very good team, they could have easily advanced to the Last 32, but they are a young team with a very good coach and I wish them all the best."

Players

BOGRIS, GEORGIOS
PAOK Thessaloniki
"It was difficult for us to fight in the game to the end, after we knew the result from Ankara which actually made our game pointless. Nevertheless, we played better defense in the second half and got the game where we wanted, however, Nizhny was the better team. They have experienced players that made some big shots and fairly won the game. I think we deserved something better from our presence in the competition, but all and all it was a positive experience and we now have to focus on the rest of the Greek Championship."
