Neptunas Klaipeda finished its Eurocup campaign on a high note with a 92-74 victory over Spartak St. Petersburg. The hosts led from start to finish, paced by Martynas Mazeika, who erupted for 33 points on just 16 shot attempts. The lead hit 20 in the second quarter and Neptunas never looked back. Spartak rallied to within 4, but the hosts responded quickly to put the game away with time to spare. Jared Homan and Donnie McGrath drew Spartak within 5, but Neptunas did not fret; Four playes scored in a 9-0 run and a Vasylius triple boosted the lead to 23-9. Burtt’s three-pointer brought St. Petersburg within 25-14 after 10 minutes. Burtt closed the deficit to 9 early in the second quarter, but the hosts quickly restored a double-digit lead, later boosted it to 20 on Vytautas Sarakauskas’s three-pointer before cruising into the break up 48-33. Korolev helped the visitors whittle the difference to 54-44, but Neptunas responded every time Spartak got to 10. A Marius Runkauskas triple left the score at 65-52 through three quarters. Spartak threatened when Karolev and Iakovenko each scored and were fouled – though both missed the extra free throw – to get within 70-63. Sinica scored 5 quick points and after an Arvydas Eitutavicius triple, Mazeika crossed the 30-point barrier in extending the lead to 18 and essentially sealing the outcome with plenty of time to spare.
