Real Madrid picked up an improbable come-from-behind 60-62 win over hosting team Zemsania CB L'Hospitalet to come on the verge of advancing to the semifinals of Ciutat de L'Hospitalet Nike International Junior Tournament. Madrid improved to 2-1, meaning it will win second place of Group A and advance into semifinals either if FC Barcelona Regal beats Maccabi Tel Aviv later on Saturday, or if Maccabi wins by more than 18 points. CB L'Hospitalet, on the other hand, drops to 0-3 record as all three losses came with a combine margin of 10 points, and will play against KK Split for the seventh place on Sunday.
Madrid had its biggest lead, 31-41, at the start of the third quarter, but the hosts made a surge in the fourth-quarter tying the game at 52-52, and then making an 8-0 run to take 60-54 lead with 64 seconds left. In a thrilling ending, though, Madrid pulled out a victory. Jonathan Kasibabu hit a triple with 48 seconds to go, before Valter Lindstron went on to make 3 of 4 free throws to tie the game at 60-60 with 13 seconds remaining. L’Hospitalet needed to win by 4 points to have a chance of advancing to semifinals, so they needed the game to go to overtime, however, Lindstron stole the ball on hosts’ final possession and made a layup to win the game for Madrid. Kasibabu led in victory with 15 points and 9 rebounds, Waly Niang had 14 points plus 8 rebounds, while Lindstron finished with 9 points. Francesc Iturria and Diego Serrano each scored 14 points for L’Hospitalet, while Julius Van Seuers had 10 in defeat.
