Limoges CSP refueled its Eurocup Eighthfinals hopes with a 68-79 road win at PAOK Thessaloniki. The result also ended PAOK’s hopes of reaching the next stage. The game was close throughout and a single point separated the teams with four minutes to go, but Limoges went on a late run to take charge for good. Leo Westermann scored 21 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting for the winners. Adrien Moerman amassed 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Jamar Smith netted 10 points for the visitors. Marc Carter scored 19 on 5-of-6 three-point shooting to lead PAOK. Kevin Langford added 18 points and Evangelos Margaritis scored 15 in defeat.

Westermann scored twice as Limoges raced out to a 2-9 start. Margaritis and Langford helped PAOK come back and Carter tied the game at 13-13 with a three-pointer. After Moerman’s tip-in and Langford’s free throws, it was 15-15 through 10 minutes. Smith’s three-pointer put Limoges up 19-23, but Michail Liapis hit a pair of triples in a 10-0 PAOK response. Langford put the hosts up 32-25 before Westermann trimmed the gap to 34-32 at the break.

Limoges began the second half on a 0-11 tear in which Nobel Boungou-Colo scored 5. Trent Plaisted put the visitors up 42-49 midway through the third quarter. Langford closed the gap with a three and Margaritis gave PAOK the lead with free throws. Christos Saloustros made it 54-51 through three quarters. Westermann tied the game with a three and it was even again at 57-57 and 60-60. Langford free throws made it 65-66 with four minutes remaining. But Limoges held POAK scoreless for three minutes in taking a 6-point lead and Mickael Gelabale, Westermann and Smith all made free throws in the final minute as Limoges captured the win.

Head Coaches

MARKOPOULOS, SOULIS
PAOK Thessaloniki
“Practically our Eurocup season is over tonight. I think that our team did a very good job during the competition, we remained competitive throughout most of the games and I would like to congratulate my players for their effort during all that time. As for the game, we did not shoot well, we tried to put the ball in the post, but the game was very physical and we simply did not make it at the end.”
DUPRAZ, JEAN-MARC
Limoges CSP
“Congratulations to my players for fighting till the end. We were coming from bad results, three defeats in a row, so this was a good victory. I’m sorry if the fans or PAOK in general was offended by the time out at the end, but we needed extra scoring in case we come to a perfect tie with Cantu.”

Players

MARGARITIS, VANGELIS
PAOK Thessaloniki
“The game was very physical, we did not succeed in maintaining the 5-6 point lead we got a couple of times in the game, but I think that we should be content with how we did during the competition. We are sad for not continuing, but happy with our effort and we now need to remain focused on the two Greek competitions we participate in.”
