Paris Levallois bolstered its chances in attempt to reach the eighthfinals with 88-79 win over Neptunas Klaipeda on Wednesday. Win improved Paris to 2-3 record, and will play against Besiktas Integral Forex Istanbul next week in a winner-takes-all clash for a place in the next phase. After trading leads for full three quarters, Paris took the lead for good with a 9-2 run at the start of the fourth quarter, and never relinquished its advantage. Maleye Ndoye hit 5 of 6 triples on his way to 23 points. Sharrod Ford collected 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Mike Green scored 12 points and dished 15 assists. Donatas Zavackas scored 15 and grabbed 7 rebounds for the visitors. Martynas Mazeika scored 12, while Deividas Gailius, Simas Galdikas and Butkevicius each had 10 points apiece for Neptunas which dropped to 1-4, and has been eliminated with this loss.

Ndoye hit back-to-back triples, helping Paris to 12-5 lead, but Gailius and Zavackas replied, including Gailius hitting two triples that gave Neptunas its first lead, and helped finish the first quarter up 21-22. Teams traded leads in the second, with Green and Dionte Christmas hitting from downtown for the hosts, and Mindaugas Girdziunas for the visitors. Keith Benson had a basket-plus-foul for 29-30 Neptunas lead, but Louis Labeyrie and Nicolas Lang each had a triple to give the hosts 37-31. However, Neptunas replied with a 0-7 run, capped by a three from Zavackas, to go back in front. Team traded more leads, before Labeyrie sank another three, and Ford finished the half with a dunk for 47-46 halftime score.

Neither team managed to pull away in the third. Ndoye hit from downtown, but Galdikas scored 6 points on the other end, before a put-back and a fastbreak layup from Mustafa Shakur made it 53-58. But Ndoye and Lang each hit another three, before Blake Schilb and Ford gave the hosts 63-60. Team entered the fourth quarter tied at 67-67, but Ford and Ndoye combined to score 9 points at the start of the fourth for 76-69. A basket from Shakur made it a 3-point game, but a put-back from Giovan Oniangue and a layup from Ford traced the hosts’ path to victory.

Head Coaches

BEUGNOT, GREGOR
Paris Levallois
"We have a chance to advance to the next round by winning next week in Istanbul. We won against them a couple weeks ago in Levallois, so we know how to play against them. The team is playing better and better for three games, maybe our loss at home against JDA Dijon in the French championship was a new start in our season."
MAKSVYTIS, KAZYS
Neptunas Klaipeda
"This game was our last chance to advance. We had pressure and the last quarter was difficult mentally and physically. Congrats to Paris Levallois for their game, I wish them the best for next week against Istanbul and for the rest of the season."

Players

NDOYE, MALEYE
Paris Levallois
"We needed this win. The job is done and this is most important. We now have a derby against Nanterre this weekend in the French League, so we must focus on it, before the final next week in Istanbul. I’m happy because we’ve learned from our past mistakes and we are improving every week."
