Kalise Gran Canaria wrapped up first place in Group G by outlasting Asvel Basket 89-93 in the last game of the regular season. Gran Canaria remained unbeaten at home and improved to 8-2, which also guarantees the club a spot as a top seed in the Last 32 draw. Asvel, which would have won the group with a win, finished in second place at 6-4. The hosts used an 11-0 run in the opening period led by the trio of Nik Caner-Medley, Sitapha Savane and Carl English to take a double-digit lead and would never trail again. However, despite trailing by 17 in the second period, Laurent Foirest and Lamayne Wilson cut the Asvel deficit to 45-40 by halftime. It was more of the same in the second half, as the home team built a 21-point advantage only to see Asvel come back again. Robert Conley helped the visitors within 75-72 early in the fourth quarter and Asvel kept it close from that point. But in the end, Asvel didn’t have enough left in the tank and Gran Canaria’s Marcus Norris and English made the critical free throws to ice the win. Norris finished with a ULEB Cup career-high 23 points and Caner-Medley posted 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Gran Canaria. English added 12 points and 7 assists and Savane had 11 points and 8 boards. Wilson finished with 26 points, Conley scored 25 and Foirest added 11 in defeat.

Caner-Medley scored the game’s opening points on the offensive glass before Uche Nsomwu matched him for Asvel. Savane and Norris pushed Gran Canaria ahead, but Nsomwu kept the visitors close. Two more baskets by Savane ignited what turned into an 11-0 charge that also featured a triple and 2 assists from English and 2 more baskets by Caner-Medley as the hosts went ahead 19-8. The lead grew to 13 on an English triple. The best efforts of Conley kept Asvel from falling further behind, but Gran Canaria still led 32-19 after 10 minutes. Baskets by Joel Freeland and Kornel David stretched the hosts’ advantage to 40-23, but Asvel didn’t give in. Back-to-back Foirest three-pointers and another from Wilson keyed a 1-13 charge to finish the half as the visitors got back in the game at 45-40 at halftime. Gran Canaria opened the second half with triples from Sergio Perez and Norris to regain a double-digit advantage. Wilson and Nsomwu fired back, but a pair of Caner-Medley scores and another Norris triple soon had the hosts leading by 66-47. The lead reached 21 on a Freeland basket, but 7 consecutive points from Wilson and a bucket from Chevy Troutman ended the third quarter with Asvel within 73-61. The visitors continued their charge as the fourth quarter got underway. A three-point play from Conley, followed by a Yohann Sangare hoop and the 6 points from Wilson with only a basket from Kornell in response made it 75-72. Norris came through with a clutch triple and Caner-Medley added a timely basket while Nsomwu missed twice on the other end as the hosts went ahead 81-74. After a timeout, Troutman and Conley trimmed the gap a bit more, but free throws by Norris and English sealed the win and first place for the home side.
