Lietuvos Rytas earned its first win in the Ciutat de L'Hospitalet tournament by outscoring La Caja de Canarias 74-71 on Tuesday evening in L'Hospitalet, Spain. L. Rytas dropped its first game by a single basket in overtime to Unicaja Malaga, which turned out to be the difference in advancing. Unicaja advanced to the semifinals, while L. Rytas lost the chance to defend the title it won here last year. On Wednesday L. Rytas will take on Regal Barcelona in a classification game, while Canarias will face Estudiantes looking for its first win. Canarias closed an 8-point deficit in the closing seconds to come as close 72-70, but missed its chance with missed shots from the charity stripe and from the behind the arc in the last seconds. Eigridas Zukauskas dropped 18 points for L. Rytas followed by Jonas Valanciunas, who finished with another double-double, this time 17 points and 11 rebounds. Paulius Semaska added 15 and Lukas Kazlauskas had 13. David Delgado led the losing side with 21 points and Jesus Adrian Baez added 10.

Valanciunas showed his presence right form the start and hit 6 quick points as L. Rytas took a 10-7 lead. Before the end of the quarter, L. Rytas added a 9-3 run to reach the first break up by 9. It took Canarias three minutes inside the second quarter to scored its first points, and an additional minute for the first field goal and by then the gap already grew to 24-12. Delgado cut the margin, but the closest it brought his team was 32-24 at the break. After scoring only 5 points in the first half, Zukauskas started to show his presence and together with Valanciunas and Semaska kept L. Rytas a safe distance. A late third-quarter run found L. Rytas just a point above Canarias 52-51, but Valanciunas opened the fourth period with 4 quick points to calm things down, although not for long. Delgado and Christian Diaz fought head-to-head with Zukauskas. The first duo grabbed the lead for the first time in the game, 58-59 lead inside the last five minutes, but the Lithuanian scored 9 points in a row for his team and set the score at 67-61 with two minutes to play. A last-second effort put the teams only two points apart, 72-70, but Semaska and Kazluaskas added a point from the line while Oliver Ramon missed a three to tie the game in the very last seconds.
