Red Star bounced back from an opening night loss by handling Brose Baskets Bamberg 82-65 on Tuesday in Belgrade, Serbia. Red Star used a balanced effort that saw six players score at least 9 points and 11 make field goals in improving to 1-1 in Group F. Marko Keselj and Milan Milosevic sparked a 9-0 first-period run for Red Star as it took a double-digit advantage and never looked back. The lead continued to grow, reaching 12 by halftime and 20 late in the third. Red Star took advantage of Bamberg's 21 turnovers to wrap up the win. Lawrence Roberts paced Red Star with 13 points and 8 rebounds, Elmedin Kikanovic and Milan Milosevic scored 12 each, Andre Owens tallied 11 and Marko Marinovic dished 7 assists. Predrag Suput scored 16 for Bamberg, Alexander Johnson had 11 and Tim Ohlbrecht and Jared Newson posted 10 apiece.

Bamberg was hot from outside in the early going, getting 3 triples in first period. With good defensive work, the visitors built a 4-9 lead as Red Star had lot of problems in transition. Keselj and Milan Milosevic sparked a 9-0 run for Red Star as the hosts turned the tables and took a 21-11 lead. Vladimir Stimac added a basket before Olbrecht kept Brose Baskets alive from the paint, ending the opening period at 23-15. Johnson scored 5 straight points as Bamberg gained confidence, but Stimac was unstoppable at the other end. When Boris Bakic and Roberts nailed three-pointers Red Star reestablished a 12-point lead and headed to the locker room at halftime holding a 48-36 advantage.

Milan Milosevic increased the Red Star lead to 57-43 with a triple and a layup. Newson and Milan Milosevic traded triples, but Keselj added one as Red Star’s lead reached 63-46 midway through the third quarter. Two minutes later, Roberts scored from downtown and the margin hit 20. Brose Baskets struck with 2-6 run, but Roberts threw down a two-handed fastbreak slam that was a sign for the 5,000 fans on hand to start celebrating. The visitors tried to upset Red Star with smaller lineup in last period, but their effort resulted in only trimming the gap to 15 points as too many turnovers killed the Bamberg hopes and Milan Marinovic helped Red Star seal the win.

"We played a real good game. I am satisfied because we had continuity for 35 minutes and I think we would have had to beat Brose Baskets by a wider margin. It could help us later because nobody knows what is going to happen in our group. In the second half we played well and we managed to stop Predrag Suput limiting him to 2 points. Our defense was good and that is the reason for our less concentration in offense. We forced Brose to 21 turnovers and we had 20 assists which is very good."

"Congratulations to the Red Star team. They showed character. They are back after a loss in Belgium last week. We were missing our second point guard tonight. The pressure of Red Star was too strong for us. We managed to play at the same level only during the starting 8 minutes. Later we were under pressure and we did not recover until the end of the game."
