KK Zagreb started in the right foot the Torneo Citta di Roma by beating Stella Azzurra by 92-82 in Group B on Monday. Zagreb’s victory was possible thanks to a stellar performance by Dario Saric, who led all scorers with 25 points on 9 of 12 two point field goals and also was the game’s top rebounder with 19 boards. Dominik Marva added 19 points for the winners, while Mario Hezonja scored 17 while grabbing 9 rebounds, and Filip Knezevic recorded 9 and 8. For Stella Azzurra, Mario Delle Cave and Mirco Turel scored 17 points each, with the first also capturing 6 rebounds and getting 5 steals. The Italian squad fought back valiantly in the last period, and even got to within 75-64 after a three pointer by Alessandro Guadagnini, but Andrija Hrkac came back immediately with a triple of his own and Saric rattled the rim with a dunk to widen the margin to 16 points again, with 6 minutes to go. KK Zagreb handled Stella Azzurra’s final push the rest of the way, as the difference never got below 11 points before Delle Cave scored the game’s final basket.
