Unicaja Malaga set up a showdown with Real Madrid for a spot in the NIJT finals at the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Milan after knocking off Union Olimpija Ljubljana 76-66 in the semi-finals of the Torneig de Básquet Júnior “Ciutat de L’Hospitalet” on Sunday. Fernando Alonso hit 5 three-pointers in scoring 18 points for Malaga while Romaric Belemene-Dzabatou had 14 and both Jose Alberto Jimenez and Bruno Diatta added 12 in helping keep Unicaja undefeated. Vlatko Cancar paced Olimpija with 15 points on 5 three-pointers while Tilen Kodrin scored 11 points. Ljubljana, which got just 4 points from star center Vasilije Vucetic, will take on Fiatc Joventut Badalona later Sunday for third place. Belemene and Kenan Karahodzic both nailed three-balls as Malaga opened the game with a 0-8 lead. Aleksandar Lazic’s free throws finally got Olimpija on the scoreboard after more than three minutes of play. Unicaja increased the advantage to seven points at 7-14 and 10-17 – the latter on Andres Aguado’s three-ball. The lead was 16-21 after one quarter. Jimenez scored seven points as Malaga started the second half with a 0-9 run for a 16-30 cushion. Cancar hit two three-pointers and Lazic tallied seven points to get Olimpija within 31-34. The margin was 31-39 after an Alonso trey before another Cancar long ball made it 34-39 at intermission. A Belemene basket pushed the Malaga lead back to double-digits 34-44. Cancar drained two more long balls to eventually get the deficit down to 48-50 late in the third quarter, which ended with Unicaja ahead 50-53. Two baskets by Kodrin got Ljubljana to within 54-55 but Alonso knocked down a trey to start the final shift in momentum. Jules Akodo cut it to 56-58 with seven minutes left, but Diatta scored six points and Alonso nailed another long ball in a 0-13 run for a 56-71 advantage with three minutes to play. Kodrin stopped the surge but Alonso hit another triple and Malaga coasted to the title game.
