Hapoel Jerusalem became the only defeated team in Group G by edging Cajasol 72-76 in Seville, Spain on Tuesday. Hapoel leads Group G with a 2-0 record, with Cajasol and CEZ Nymburk right behind at 1-1. Willie Solomon led the winners with 26 points on 5-of-5 two-pointers and 4-of-8 triples. Sam Clancy added 16 points while Jason Rich had 11 for Hapoel. Tariq Kirksay led CCajasol with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Txemi Urtasun added 13 while Tomas Satoransky had 12 for the hosts. Solomon led a 1-16 run that allowed Hapoel to get a double-digit lead, 29-40, at halftime. Cajasol, led by an outstanding Kirksay, needed just 3 minutes to briefly regain the lead, 43-42, right after the break. Solomon, Clancy and Dion Dowell kept pacing Hapoel but Urtasun sparked a late rally that brought Cajasol as close as 72-83 with 25.3 seconds left. Rich scored off a critical steal and split free throws to lead Hapoel to a well-deserved road win.
Kirksay needed just 4 seconds to get Cajasol going with a driving basket but Yogev Ohayon quickly answered with a layup. Mindaugas Katelynas followed an uncontested layup with a bomb from downtown and Kirksay joined the three-point shootout for an 11-4 Cajasol lead. Solomon struck from downtown and Rich banked in a shot to keep Hapoel within 11-9. Urtasun buried a seven-meter bomb but free throws by Brian Randle and Solomon kept the guests as close as 14-12. Juanjo Triguero shined with a backdoor layup that Clancy matched with a power basket. Louis Bullock shined with a driving layup and Joan Sastre added a wild acrobatic basket but Ohayon beat the buzzer to keep the guests within 20-16 after 10 minutes. Clancy hit a running hook early in the second quarter and matched Bullock's fallaway jumper with a power basket. Sastre struck from downtown but a two-handed dunk by Randle got Hapoel within 25-22. Clancy stayed on fire with a tip-in and a jumper by Rich gave Hapoel its first lead, 25-26. Dowell and Solomon soon struck from downtown in a 1-16 run that gave Hapoel a 26-36 margin. Paul Davis hit free throws but Dowell bettered that with a bomb from downtown. Free throws by Solomon and Kirksay fixed the halftime score at 29-40.
Satoransky sank a step-back jumper, igniting an 8-0 run in which Kirksay had 5 points to get Cajasol within 36-40 right after the break. Solomon shined with a six-meter jumper but a big triple by Ivanov and a jumper by Davis brought the hosts as close as 41-42. Kirksay - who else? - scored down low to complete his team's comeback, 43-42. Clancy scored off a Hapoel timeout and Ohayon nailed a triple to give the guests some fresh air at 43-47. Satoransky joined the three-point shootout but a dunk by Randle and a jumper by Solomon kept the guests ahead, 46-51. Urtasun struck from downtown but a running jumper by Ohayon and another triple by Solomon boosted Hapoel's margin to 49-57. A driving layup by Satoransky got Cajasol within 51-57 after 30 minutes. Rich and Kirksay traded layups early in the fourth quarter and Solomon beat the hosts' zone defense with a bomb from downtown. Satoransky tried to change things with back-to-back baskets and Katelynas dunked it to send the crowd to their feet at 59-62. Clancy and Kirksay scored in penetration and free throws by Triguero got Cajasol within 63-65. Kirksay took over with a floating jumper but Rich restored a 65-67 Hapoel lead with over 3 minutes left. Clancy scored down low and Randle added free throws but Urtasun took over in crunch time with 7 points, including a triple for a 72-73 Cajasol deficit with 25.3 seconds left. Rich scored off a steal and split free throws to seal the outcome in the final 11 seconds.
