Dynamo Moscow pounded Lukoil Acadmic 103-77 on Tuesday in the Russian capital to advance to the Final Eight of the ULEB Cup next month in Turin, Italy. Moscow will face PGE Turow in the quarterfinal game. Dynamo, the 2006 ULEB Cup champion, won the first leg in Sofia, Bulgaria, by 14 points and that lead was never in danger. Academic hung around early, but the hosts started to pull away thanks to hot shooting from Henry Domercant and Travis Hansen, took a 55-41 lead at halftime and continued to grow it until it reached 32 points early in the fourth quarter. Domercant scored 21 of his 25 points in the first half and Hansen added 23 for Dynamo, which shot 16 for 25 from downtown. Sergey Monya finished with 13 points and Antonis Fotsis 10. Willie Deane paced Academic with 24 points and 5 assists, Riste Stefanov added 16, Haris Mujezinovic 15 and Todor Stoykov 10.

Academic got the scoreboard rolling with a basket from Deane, but Hansen answered right back with his first triple of the night. The game remained close with Stefanov and Mujezinovic heating up as the visitors went ahead 10-12. Domercant put Dynamo back on top only for Mujezinovic to answer from the line. Monya’s triple made it 18-14, however Stefanov kept the deficit to a basket. Milos Vujanic popped a jumper to finish the first quarter at 25-21. Hansen hit another three and added a two-pointer as the lead grew to 9. Stefanov and Mujezinovic continued to battle for Academic and a Deane triple cut it to 35-29. Hansen and Domercant netted threes and Fotsis coverted a three-point-play in a 9-2 spurt that made it 44-31. Pero Antic and Mujezinovic trimmed the deficit to single digits, but free throws from Dimitry Domani and then a triple from Domercant gave the hosts a comfortable 55-41 halftime advantage.

After a slow start to the second half, baskets by Fotsis and Vujanic began to signal the beginning of the end for Academic. Stoykov stepped up with a triple, but back-to-back Hansen scores saw the lead cross the 20-point threshold. Deane scored 5 quick points, however Domercant answered and then a Fotsis triple made it 72-49. Soon Robertas Javtokas and Hansen made it a 25-point game and despite baskets from Mujezinovic and Deane, Dynamo pushed ahead 86-59 after 30 minutes. Petr Samoylenko took Dynamo to 91-59 early in the fourth quarter as the hosts began to celebrate a spot in the Final Eight. With the outcome essentially decided, Dynamo rested its stars and Academic tried to take advantage as Stoykov led a 2-13 run, but even with that, the visitors never got closer than 21. Yuri Vasilyev pushed Moscow over the 100-point mark as the game ended to the local fans’ delight.

"It's very difficult to play after winning by 14 points, but we tried to control the game and to do our best not to be surprised. We followed the philosophy of our head coach, who wanted us to play very hard defense."
