Galatasaray Cafe Crown advanced to a ULEB Cup Final Eight showdown with fellow Turkish club Besiktas despite an 88-79 loss at Kalise Gran Canaria in the Last 16 return leg. Armed with a 25-point first-leg win, Robert Hite's 20 points and 8 rebounds led four Galatasaray players in double figures for a 178-162 aggregate victory over the two games. Cuneyt Erden hit 5 three-pointers for 15 points and had 5 assists while Dee Brown and Chris Owens both had 15 points as well. Carl English tallied 24 points in a losing effort, Kornel David added 12 and Roberto Guerra had 11.

Sitapha Savane opened the scoring for the hosts and Charles Gaines answered for Galatasaray. But Sergio Perez and Niklas Caner-Medley knocked down three-pointers for a 10-2 Gran Canaria lead. Hite hit a long-ball and Brown scored to trim the deficit to 10-7. Perez connected from downtown again for a 15-9 advantage, but Owens hit from long range on the ensuing possession. It was 21-15 after an English triple. English's free throws gave the hosts a 25-20 advantage after one period. Joel Freeland's basket started the second to push the lead to 27-20. But Owens scored twice and Erden hit a three to even the game at 29-29. David's foul shots gave the hosts back the lead, but Erden hit back-to-back threes for a 33-35 lead. Britton Johnsen pushed the advantage to 37-41. But English scored 10 points – including two three-pointers – in an 11-0 run for a 48-41 cushion at the break.

English continued his hot stretch with a triple to start the second half for the first double-digit lead – 51-41. Owens converted a three-point play and Gaines scored to cut the deficit in half. Caner-Medley and Marcus Norris pushed it back to 55-46. But Hite tallied 4 straight points and Brown and Erden both hit from long range to give Galatasaray the lead again 55-56. Gran Canaria pushed back ahead on a David basket but another Erden three-ball helped Galatasaray grab a 59-61 lead after three periods. Johnsen opened the fourth period for Galatasaray. Gran Canaria still had a long way to go but regained the lead on Roberto Guerra's three-ball. And Mario Fernandez's long ball made it 70-64 with six minutes left. Guerra knocked down another triple for a 73-64 advantage. Brown stopped the surge with a three-pointer though Victor Baldo again hit from downtown for a 78-69 lead with less than 3 minutes to play. And Hite's three-ball for an 80-74 deficit ended for good any miracle hopes for Gran Canaria.

Head Coaches

MALDONADO, SALVA
Kalise Gran Canaria
"In Istanbul we had some bad minutes which destroyed all the hard work we did this season in this competition. This system wasn't fair to us because it punished a mistake that really cost us. In general, they were better and they go to the Final Eight. The vrowd was amazing and we could offer a good basketball show."

Players

PEREZ, SERGIO
Kalise Gran Canaria
"We started well and we managed to get a starting lead but they were always there and never let us take over. That made us slow down a little, too. They were superior in Istanbul, but not so much here. Anyway, now we can only think about the Spanish League and try to get as far as possible."
