CSU Asesoft routs Rytas for share of Group E lead

Romanian champion CSU Asesoft Ploiesti routed Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius 103-83 to become the exclusive leader of the Group E table. A strong start gave the home team an early 30-11 margin and the visitors never got close the rest of the way. Gerald Lee led the winners with 19 points on 9-of- 9 two-point shooting, Dee Brown amassed a double-double of 18 points and 14 assists for a performance index rating of 33, Jonte Flowers netted 14 while Michalis Pelekanos and Alhaji Mohammed scored 13 apiece as the team shot 13 of 26 from downtown. Adas Juskevicius of Rytas led all scorers with 20 points, Gediminas Orelik netted 17 and Mindaugas Lukauskis 10 in defeat.

Dragan Labovic from mid range gave Asesoft an 11-2 advantage after five minutes. Gediminas Orelik from downtown tried to keep the visitors close, 20-11, but 10 unanswered points from the home team made it 30-11 on a basket from long distance by Brown. A 7-0 run for Rtyas fixed things at 30-18 at the end of the first quarter. Jonte Flowers hit a three and Lee completed a fast break with an easy lay up to cap a 7-0 run to lead 44-26 at the midway point of the second quarter. The home team continued to dominate the game with a great offensive performance, taking a 52-32 cushion when Brown posted his third triple of the night. Pelekanos raised it to 56-34 from the foul line. Rytas finished with back-to-back lay ups scored by Billy Baron and Juskevicius to make it 56-38 at halftime.

Lukauskis brought Rytas within 56-43 early in the third quarter, but the hosts answered with Alhaji Mohammed from downtown and Lee from mid range to re-establish a 64-45 difference. Martynas Gecevicius tried to keep the guests in charge from beyond the arc, but Asesoft followed to keep a high percentage from downtown and made it 74-53 on Pelekanos's three-pointer. Orelik beat the buzzer to cut the deficit to 80-61 through three quarters. The guests tried a late comeback through Lukauskism whose triple made it 91-80 with three minutes left, but Flowers from the foul line scored Asesoft's 100th points and newcomers Jarvis Hayes fixed the final score at 103-83.
