Dominion Bilbao Basket dominates EWE Baskets by 34

Dominion Bilbao Basket dominated EWE Baskets Oldenburg 60-94 Tuesday to improve to 2-1 in Group A. The visitors started the game on a 2-11 tear and never looked back with the lead growing continuously for the rest of the night and reaching 38 by the end. Dominion BB made 16 of 31 three-pointers (51.6%) with six different players making multiple threes. Dairis Bertans led the Dominion attack with 17 points, Clevin Hannah posted 15 points and 7 assists, Tobias Borg and Alex Ruoff scored 12 points apiece and Shawn James netted 10. Robin Smeulders paced Oldenburg with 14 points and Rickey Paulding scored 11 in defeat. The loss left Dominion at the bottom of the group standings at 0-3.

Dominion took charge early; James’s free throws got the visitors on the scoreboard before Brian Qvale evened the score. Then Hannah sandwiched a pair of threes around another from Alex Mumbru for a 2-11 start. Nemanja Aleksandrov stepped up for Oldenburg with 5 quick points. Bertans of Dominion and Paulding of Oldenburg traded threes to make it 12-17 midway through the first quarter. Axel Hervelle kept the visitors in control with a basket-plus-foul and Giorgos Bogris’s layup and three-pointer pushed the difference to 16-27 after 10 minutes. Triples by Ruoff and Alex Suarez stretched Dominion’s lead to 20-33. Then Bertans drilled another two shots from behind the arc as the lead reached 19. Paulding connected from downtown to make it 23-39 midway through the second quarter. Smeulders carried Oldenburg within 14, but Hannah responded with his third triple of the night. Suarez split free throws to end the half with the score 29-45.

Mumbru and Bertans sandwiched a pair of threes around another from Paulding. Suarez soon gave Dominion a 21-point lead. Aleksandrov and Paulding kept the hosts fighting, but back-to-back baskets by Hannah and a pair of James free throws gave Dominion a comfortable 42-65 advantage. Despite Prepelic heating up for Dominion, James sank free throws to make it 48-71 through three quarters. Ruoff scored twice to start the fourth quarter before Borg made it a 30-point game. Hannah capped a 1-10 start to the quarter. Borg and Bogris scored as the lead continued to grow. It eventually peaked at 56-94 on a Ruoff three as Dominion cruised to victory.

"It is difficult for me to describe what happened tonight. We had a very different game plan, but Bilbao destroyed our ambitions early. Bilbao made too many right decisions. We didn´t find any answers. So we are very dissapointed. "
ALONSO, SITO
Dominion Bilbao Basket
"This was a good day for us. We saw Oldenburg play in Trento und knew they are a good team, so we were very focused on how we can beat them. We took good shots, so our confidence became better and better. "
