USK Future Stars Prague used a big second half to beat CSKA Moscow 63-68 and improve to 2-0 in Group A of the Kaunas NIJT Qualifying Tournament. Ondrej Sehnal paced the winners with 23 points, Marek Mares added 13, David Skranc 11 and Jakub Jokl 10. Alexander Gavrilov led CSKA with 13 points, Kirill Pisklov amassed 11 points and 9 rebounds and Mikhail Maleyko and Vladislav Staratelev scored 10 each in defeat. Although Mares scored the game’s first points from the free throw line, Staratelev led a 10-0 CSKA run en route to a 16-7 lead through 10 minutes. Maleyko scored 5 points to boost the lead to 25-13 midway through the second quarter. Prague recovered to close within 6 on a Sehnal free throw, but Timofey Yakushin boosted CSKA to 35-27 at the break. Threes by Sehnal and Skranc set the tone for a big third quarter from USK, which took the lead on Sehnal’s steal and layup, 36-37. The lead changed hands on the next three possessions before 5 points over three possessions from Senhal made it 46-52. Maleyko brought CSKA within 50-52 at the end of the quarter. A Maxim Morozov basket-plus-foul tied the game at 53-53 A pair of Jokl buckets put Prague back in front, but a Gavrilov triple had CSKA back within 1 with less than three minutes to play. Senhal helped ice the USK victory with a three and a layup.
