Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul picked up another impressive victory to open Day Two of the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT in Kaunas with an 85-68 win over Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius. Omer Yurtseven had a monster game with 33 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, two steals, four blocks and a ranking of 51 for Fenerbahce, which improved to 2-0 in Group B. Egehan Arna chipped in 15 points while Dogancan Celik had 11 points and Ahmet Duran picked up six points and 10 rebounds. Lietuvos Rytas dropped to 0-2 despite Arnas Berucka scoring 15 points and both Jokubas Svambaris and Mantvydas Staniulis tallying 12 points.
Berucka started the scoring for Lietuvos Rytas but Yurtseven scored eight points as Fenerbahce reeled off a 14-0 run for a 14-2 lead. Svambaris finally scored on a free throw after the Lithuanian team had missed 10 straight shots and turned the ball over three times in the five minute scoreless stretch. Celik and Berucka swapped three-balls before Ercan Bayrak sandwiched baskets around another Yurtseven score, helping make it 23-8 after 10 minutes. Arna started the second quarter with a three-pointer and Yurtseven pushed the lead to 20 points for the first time. Svambaris then hit Lietuvos Rytas’s first basket but triples from Arna and Efe Kayalar increased the cushion to 34-11. Berucka tried to get his team closer with a three-pointer and a three-point play to trim it to 34-17. Yurtseven pushed the lead back to 22 points before Dainius Ozelis and Svambaris combined for eight points to make it 43-27. Ugurcan Turunc, however, nailed a three-pointer to give Fenerbahce 46-27 lead at intermission.
Lietuvos Rytas came out strong in the second half with Lukas Kvedaravicius hitting a three-pointer, two foul shots and another basket and Martynas Maskolaitis converting a three-point play to get the Lithuanian side to within 52-37. Another score each by Kvedaravicius and Maskolaitis made it 58-43 midway through the third quarter. But Turunc started an 8-0 Fenerbahce run for a 66-43 lead. Maskolaitis scored again and Svambaris converted a three-point play but the Turkish club still led 70-50 after 30 minutes. Neither team scored in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter until Kayalar’s basket to make it 72-50. Staniulis knocked down two three-pointers and Mantas Pigaga added another trey to pull Lietuvos Rytas to within 76-59 with 4:30 minutes left. But Duran made two free throws, Arna nailed a three-ball and Yurtseven scored his final basket to build the lead back up to 83-59 with two minutes left. Lietuvos Rytas finished the game with a 2-9 run.
