Telenet Ostend picked up its first win of the season, going on the road and downing Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck 67-75 on Wednesday. Both teams now hold 1-2 records in Group B. Ostend took control in the first quarter behind Guy Muya and John Prince, and never relinquished the lead. Dragons closed within 23-25 in the second, and 43-44 in the third quarter, but both times Ostend quickly pulled away. When the margin reached 15 points in the fourth quarter, the lead was safe until the very end. Ostend got balanced contributions, with 11 out of 12 players scoring; Prince led the way with 18 points, and Muya scored 9 with 5 assists. Anthony King collected 18 points plus 10 rebounds for the Dragons, while David Holston had 11 points and 6 assists in defeat.

Triples from Mateusz Ponitka and Wes Wilkinson sparked Ostend's 2-17 run that spanned the final six minutes of the first quarter and the first 60 seconds of the second. Muya added a pair of baskets, and Prince nailed a triple as the visitors held an 11-19 advantage after the first quarter. A layup from Prince made it a double-digit lead at the start of the second. Dragons had five baskets from five different scorers in the first, and buckets from Chad Toppert and Brandon Thomas were their only ones in the first five minutes of the second. Ostend led 15-25 midway through the quarter before David McCray hit a three. Thomas added a put-back and a triple of his own to make it 23-25. But Ostend's dominance on the offensive glass assured the visitors stay ahead. Nine second-chance points on four consecutive trips down the floor, including a triple from Prince, helped Ostend move ahead 26-35. In the final minute of the half, Lawrence Hill and Wilkinson traded triples for 31-38 score line at the rbeak.

King strung together 10 straight points in the third quarter to get the hosts within 43-46, but stepping up on defense was Wilkinson and Khalid Boukichou with steals. Boukichou also had a block, and together with Muya combined to score all the points in a 0-9 run. A three-pointer from Jean Salumu at the end of the third and early in the fourth made it 47-59, before Boukichou had a layup and a dunk and Niel Marnegrave added a shot behind the arc for a 51-66 lead, paving the way to victory. King and Hill attempted to rally the hosts, and King cut it to 67-73 with little over a minute to go, but it was too little too late for the Dragons, as the Belgian champs celebrated their first win of 2014-15 Eurocup campaign.

"The game was decided in the first quarter. We had to put in a lot of energy to get back into the game. We had a decent start, but then Ostend got the momentum. They were a little more aggressive, fighting for loose balls and going after rebounds. We did a good job fighting back and at the end we lost one rebound that could have given us the chance to get closer. Ostend is a high-level team and you can't allow them runs. You have to keep the game as close as possible to have a chance to win. We have to improve in not making so many mistakes."
GJERGJA, DARIO
Telenet Ostend
"We played a decent game. They had two runs, one in the second quarter and one in the end. We controlled the tempo of the game. Artland is a good team and we are happy about this win. Today we played with some guys who usually don't play so much. But I always tell them, that everybody has his part and has to play with confidence. In the end I called the timeout, because the score might be important at the end of the regular season."

"It was a hard-fought game. At the end there were a couple of rebounds we didn't get. It came down to the little things. These two teams have played each other a lot and we knew the little things would make the difference. My performance doesn't matter if we don't win."
MARNEGRAVE, NIELS
Telenet Ostend
"We played a good game defensively. We played well and controlled the game for the most part. But our defense was the key for this win."
