Spartak St. Petersburg remains perfect atop Group G with 3-0 record after downing Bayern Munich 75-62 on Tuesday afternoon. Patrick Beverley led the way for Spartak with 17 points and 6 rebounds, Loukas Mavrokefalides scored 13, Viktor Keyru 11 and Yotam Halperin tallied 9 points and 6 assists. Robin Benzing led Bayern with 16 points, Chevon Troutman bagged 15 and Jan Jagla drilled 12 with 8 boards. A 16-3 Spartak run highlighted by Mavrokefalides, Keyru and Vladimir Dragicevic gave the hosts a 36-22 margin late in the second quarter. Bayern trailed to within 56-52 early in the fourth quarter, but Mavrokefalides capped a decisive 13-0 run to give a double-digit cushion to Spartak and ice the game.
Halperin connected twice with Mavrokefalides to open the scoring. Benzing completed a three-point-play to tie it at 4-4, but Valery Likhdey from long distance made it 7-4 for the locals. Mavrokefalides again from mid range and Benzing with another lay-up and free throw, fueled their sides. Jagla from downtown gave the first advantage, 12-14, to the guests, and after Miha Zupan tied it again, Benzing hit another triple. A mid-range jumper by Jagla and back-to-back layups by Dragicevic and Keyru fixed the final 20-19 for Spartak at the end of the first quarter. Mavrokefalides from downtown extended the cushion to 26-20 early in the second, Troutman and Keyru nailed jumpers, but Spartak kept running and Aleksey Zozulin capped a 16-3 run to lead 36-22 with 2.35 to halftime. Newcomer for Bayern, big man Jared Homan scored in the paint to fix the final 36-26 for the hosts after twenty minutes.
Troutman kept in charge his side on 38-29, then Beverley scored 7 points in a row to go to 45-32, and Likhodey fueled his side from beyond the arc and Halperin extended the difference from the foul line to
49-35. Steffen Hamann scored in the open court, but was answered by Dragicevic to be on 51-39 before a 6-0 run of the guests highlighted with 4 points by Jagla allowed Fraport to climb within 51-45. The accuracy Keyru from the foul line gave the final 53-45 to Spartak at the end of the third quarter. Homan opened the last 10 minutes scoring in the paint. Zupan hit a three, copied by a wild Jagla to close to within 6. Benzing was back to make it 56-52, but Beverley scored 5 in a row and Halperin added
back-to-back three pointers to spark a 13-0 run for a double-digit margin, 69-52. Hamann scored 4 consecutive free throws, and Troutman made a layup trying to be back on track, 69-58 with two minutes left in the game. A basket from the three-point land by Keyru sealed the win, giving to Spartak a 72-58 margin with 1.36 remaining.RS
