Petr Benda - CEZ NymburkIntense night in the Czech Republic as a tough duel was only decided in the last minutes. CEZ Nymburk managed to get rid of Brose Baskets on Tuesday night, 71-66, after a thrilling final period in which free throws were decisive in the end. The win allows CEZ Nymburk to improve to a 2-1 record in Group H, while also handing Brose its first loss of the season to also drop to 2-1. Nymburk dominated in the first minutes of the game but the guests managed to build up to double-digit margins, 25-35, ending the first half. It wasnt until the last quarter when a 7-0 starting burst allowed the hosts to jump back ahead for good. Petr Benda and Phil Ricci led thewinners with 12 points apiece while Arthur Lee and Ian Hanavan added 11 each for Nymburk. For Brose Baskets, Predrag Suput and Beckham Wyrick posted 10 points each.

A fast steal and basket by Tibor Pleiss allowed Brose Baskets to jumpe ahead at the start of the game, and Anton Gavel soon joined in with a three to make it 0-5. Radec Nekas finally got CEZ Nymburk going but Pleiss was active on the offensive end and the guests dominated 4-10 thanks to two threes in two minutes. Arthur Lee and Michal Tremen put Nymburk close again, until four straight points by Petr Benda finally put the hosts ahead after a 8-0 run, 12-10. The German team woke up with a 0-6 of his own capped by Casey Jacobsen's three. Between Jacobsen himself and Elton Brown, Brose Baskets still manage dto build a larger edge by the end of first quarter, 14-21 making it a 2-11 burst. Beckam Wyrick made the gap a little wider to start the second quarter for Brose Baskets, but Phil Ricci and Ian Hanavan scored for Nymburk to keep the hosts in the game. Gavel and Hanavan traded threes for both sides, as Nymburk had one for the five of Brose Baskets at that point. Wyrick had a new bomb for the guests to make it a nine-point game, 23-32, and then Jacobsen hit his three free throws to put the first double-digit lead of the night, 25-35. Benda and Sokolovsky fired it up for Nymburk, but the hosts' defense was allowing Brose Baskets for some easy shots, and the first half finished with more three-pointer trading to make it 32-41 at the buzzer.

Benda and Lee started the second half on a positive note for Nymburk trimming the deficit to six points, but Predrag Suput woke in time to get Brose Baskets going. Brown and Necas traded three-point plays for each team, and then Benda scored to make it 41-46 and put Nymburk close enough. Brian Roberts found some space to hit it from downtown again for Brose Baskets, and the difference on the scoreboard stayed around there for some minutes. Ricci and Hanavan connected for a 5-0 that cut the cushion back to six points, 53-59, to end the third period. The lest period started as few would have anticipated. A 7-0 run for Nymburk capped by Ricci's layup, put the hosts back in command, 60-59. Suput responded to the new scenario with a three, and again he scored to keep thing even with the hosts, who led by two after Benda free throws, 66-64. The game was reaching the decisive moments and Mike Lenzly kept his head cold to hit twice from the charity line, 68-64. More turnovers from Brose Baskets in the final steps of the game allowed more trips to the free-throw line to Nymburk players as Benda and Necas hit one each for 71-64. Wyrick did the same twice for the guests but it was too late as time ran out and Nymburk emerged victorious with a 71-66 decision.

"This was an extremely hard game for us. We had to face a team tonight that shot the ball from the three-points line extremely well. I don't think we started the game with a bad defense but I think we were not playing smart. The three-pointers Brose Baskets made were coming after actions that we were preparing for. In the second half we had to adjust and switch man-to-man defense with a match-up zone. I think this changed the pace and rhythm of the game. I am extremely proud of my team today because we fought and won as a team."
FLEMING, CHRIS
Brose Baskets
"I thought we were a better team for two and a half quarters today. What was good for us in those periods we stopped doing especially in teh fourth quarter. Nymburk was able to make shots down the stretch and got really aggressive with their man-to-man defense. Our three-point shooting was very good in teh first half but I think we do it the best when we move the ball well on the perimeter prior to shooting. Unfortunately, we stopped moving the ball in the last quarter."

BENDA, PETR
CEZ Nymburk
"We got off to a bad start tonight and fell back by a large margin. It took us the majority of the game to dig ourselves out of this hole. At the end, fortunately for us, the shots for Brose Baskets stopped falling, we were on the other hand able to finally connect and I thought we were more patient than our opponent. We did all we could for the win as a team."
GAVEL, ANTON
Brose Baskets
"We played a very good first half allowing Nymburk only 32 points. Our defense was working very well. Unfortunately, we were not able to keep the same quality in the second half and allowed Nymburk to score some easy points. That got Nymburk going and then it was very tough to stop them."
