Cobbs's career game gives Buducnost the win
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica blasted Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana 91-60 in a battle between old rivals in the Montenegrin capital on Wednesday. Buducnost improved to 4-1 in the standings while Cedevita dropped to 2-3. Justin Cobbs led the winners with a career-high 33 points, Jacob Wiley added 15, Petar Popovic 13 and D.J. Seeley 10 for Buducnost. Melvin Ejim paced Cedevita with 14 points while Edo Muric added 10. Cobbs was unstoppable in the first half and Vladimir Micov buried a triple that made it a double-digit game, 39-29, near halftime. Cobbs buried 3 consecutive three-pointers and Seeley also struck from beyond the arc to break the game open, 61-43, and Buducnost controlled the game until the final buzzer.
Cobbs got Buducnost going with a three-point play before Jacob Pullen and Zach Auguste gave Cedevita a 3-4 lead. Popovic hit a baseline jumper and fed Zoran Nikolic for a dunk, but Auguste scored again and Muric added a layup-plus-foul for a 7-9 Cedevita edge. Popovic scored in penetration and Cobbs added a floater for an 11-9 Buducnost lead. Seeley and Cobbs stepped up for the hosts, but Ejim allowed the guests to regain the lead, 15-16. Filip Barovic hit a jump hook and Cobbs added a fastbreak layup for a 19-16 Buducnost lead after 10 minutes.
Popovic took over with a driving layup and Marko Jagodic-Kuridza added a close basket for a 23-16 Buducnost lead. Ziga Dimec and Luka Scuka ignited a 0-7 run that Marko Radovanovic capped with a triple for a 23-23 tie. Cobbs rescued Buducnost with 4 quick points and Popovic added a wild layup-plus-foul to put the hosts in charge, 30-27. Wiley dunked and a red-hot Popovic buried a jumper to make it 34-27. After Radovanovic and Marko Jagodic-Kuridza traded layups, Micov struck from beyond the arc to make it a double-digit game, 39-29. Radovanovic and Jackie Carmichael each dunked to bring Cedevita closer, 41-33, at halftime.
Micov buried his second three-pointer immediately after the break. Auguste and Jaka Blazic stepped up with dunks, but Cobbs and Popovic kept Buducnost way ahead, 49-37. Pullen and Muric each struck from beyond the arc, however, a red-hot Cobbs downed three consecutive shots from downtown to break the game open, 58-43. Seeley nailed a deep three-pointer, prompting Cedevita to call a much-needed timeout at 61-43. Micov soon added a put-back layup that Pullen erased with a floater to make it 63-45 after 30 minutes.
Cedevita needed a quick comeback to keep its options open, but Wiley opened the fourth quarter with a big dunk. Barovic added a jump hook and Suad Sehovic soon made it a 24-point lead. Seeley sank another three-pointer as Buducnost started to run the game clock down by using longer possessions. Cedevita kept trying but Buducnost had cruised to a well-deserved win.
Buducnost stops Cedevita's stars
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica had the right game plan against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in Game 5 of the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season. It needed to stop Jaka Blazic and Jacob Pullen, Cedevita's top scorers, to increase its chances to win the game, and it definitely did that. Pullen averaged 19.0 points and Blazic 18.8 before this game. Pullen opened the scoring with a pair of free throws, but neither of them scored again in the first half, combining for just those 2 points. At the end of the game, Pullen and Blazic combined for 9 points and a PIR of 0.
Cobbs has career night
Justin Cobbs had a near-perfect performance to lead his team, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica to a no-doubt-about-it home victory against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana. Cobbs finished the game with 33 points, a new personal best, on 6-of-9 two-point shooting, 3-of-3 on three-pointers and 12-of-12 on free throws. He added 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, a block and 5 fouls drawn for a PIR of 44. It was the highest PIR for a Buducnost player since 2004 and the club's second-best mark in EuroCup history. Ivan Koljevic had a PIR of 46 against PAOK Thessaloniki on December 7, 2004.
Accuracy, aggresiveness gives Buducnost win
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica only registered nine players for its Round 5 game against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, as it missed Ivan Drobnjak, Willie Reed, Edin Atic and Danilo Nikolic. Buducnost showed great aggressiveness, finishing the game with 5 blocked shots and 11 steals. It also shot the ball much better than its opponents, downing 22 of 39 two-pointers (56.4%) and 10 of 20 three-pointers (50.0%). Cedevita only scored 17 of 35 two-point shots (48.6%) and 5 of 22 three-pointers (22.7%). The visitors finished the game with 17 turnovers, another key in this game.
