Avdija stars again as Maccabi blow out Skyliners

U18 Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv remained perfect in Group A of the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Munich by easing past U18 Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt 58-73. Deni Avdija scored 30 points while hitting 6 three-pointers to go with 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 steals and 1 block for a performance index rating of 44. That came after Avdija had 31 points in Maccabi’s Round 1 win. Dori Sahar added 13 points for Maccabi, which is 2-0 in the group. Skyliners dropped to 1-1 despite Len Schoormann picking up 19 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals while Michael Javernik had 13 points and 9 rebounds.

The game was tight early on, with Avdija hitting 2 three-balls for Maccabi and Schoormann scoring 4 points for a 10-11 score. Sahar completed a three-point play and added another basket as Maccabi was up 17-21 after 10 minutes. Javernik and Julius Boehmer both connected from long range in putting Skyliners ahead 25-21 before Avdija was on target from outside and Sahar added 2 more triples for a 29-32 score. And Maccabi was ahead 36-38 at the break. Skyliners was still within 40-43 when Amit Aharoni nailed a three-pointer to start a 2-18 closing run to the third quarter that put Maccabi ahead 42-61. Schoormann tried to get Skyliners back into the game with 4 baskets but the German side was still down 50-68. And Skyliners did not get closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
