Brose Basket earned its first win in the Belgrade Nike International Junior Tournament following a 65-56 victory over Asvel Basket in the 5-8 classification games on Saturday evening in Belgrade, Serbia. After losing all three games in the first stage Brose enjoyed the taste of a win and will take on KK Hemofarm Stada tomorrow in the 5th place game. Asvel will take on BC Crvena Zvezda in the fight to avoid the last place in the tournament. Great defensive effort in the third quarter limited Asvel on 5 points, and made the difference all the way through, as Philipp Neumann dominated both ends of the floor. The German big guy posted 33 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks to reach an index rating of 52 despite carrying an injury which kept him out of the first game today. Jorg Dippold added 18 points to the winning side. Lambert Diacono reached 20 points in only 16 minutes, while Adrien Coussy finished with 12 for Asvel who missed Gide Noel for an injury.

Neumann scored the first 9 points for Brose, to separate the teams 11-2 after 6 minutes. Dippold used the attention directed to Neumann to gather 5 points in a row in his pocket, as Brose took an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second period started the same way as Neumann hit 8 points in a row and soon his team enjoyed a 28-15 difference. Once Neumann left to rest Coussy and Diacono took over the game and led Asvel to score 15 points in a row and hold the lead at the end of the first half, 28-30. Diacono hit the first points in the second half to double the margin to 4, but once Neumann was back on court it was a one man show. Asvel added just a single field goal as Brose made a 20-3 run and enter the closing quarter up by 13, 48-35. Diacono attacked the rim and created points for Asvel. His three pointer in the last minute made it just a three point game, but Neumann scored again and wrote his sixth block to make the final statement.
