Undefeated Bayern too much for Reggio Emilia

FC Bayern Munich reached the midway point in the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season with a perfect record after overpowering Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia 83-58 on Wednesday at Audi Dome. Bayern took control of the game early and led by 22 at halftime. Regio Emilia fourth back with a strong third quarter, but never got closer than 11 and Bayern pulled away again in the fourth quarter to improve to 5-0. Reggio Emilia slipped to 2-3 in Group B. Jared Cunningham scored 15 points in 18 minutes and Nihad Dedovic came off the bench for another 15 points to lead the winners. Devin Booker added 13 on near-perfect shooting and Reggie Redding contributed 11 points. Amedeo Della Valle produced 15 points and 5 assists for Reggio Emilia, Manuchar Markoishvili added 14 points and Jalen Reynolds amassed 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals in defeat.

Bayern opened the scoring with a classic Redding to Booker alley-oop slam before back-to-back threes by Leonardo Candi and Della Valle got the visitors going. A trio of Cunningham triples put the hosts back in front comfortably, 19-11. Reynolds gave Reggio Emilia a lift with a pair of slams, however Bayern remained in control, 28-20, after 10 minutes. Danilo Barthel converted a reverse layup to give the home team its first double-digit lead. Dedovic’s layup extended the margin to 34-20. Dedovic scored the last 7 points of the half, including a three off the glass at the halftime buzzer, to give his team a 50-28 lead at the break.

Julian Wright opened the second half with a three-pointer for Reggio Emilia. Markoishvili added another two triples as the visitors got back in the game at 54-41. Even when Bayern found its touch offensively, Reynolds scored twice on the offensive glass as the visitors drew within 11. Dedovic free throws made it 62-49 at the end of the third quarter. Markoishvili fouled out with more than six minutes to play and Cunningham made the resulting free throws to put Bayern up 68-52. Hobbs beat the shot clock with a three and Dedovic free throws re-established a 20-point advantage. The lead peaked at 25 on a Karim Jallow alley-oop in the closing seconds as Bayern celebrated another convincing win.

"I believe we played extremely well defensively in the first half. We were all over them. We were with our hands up. They scored some points on the fast break and they are a great shooting team; they scored some threes and that’s what kept them in the game a little bit. Our turnovers, unforced errors in the third quarter is something we have to take out and just play the game. It’s too early in the season, too early in the game. We have to keep playing and keep getting better. That was one of the timeout topics. "

"Congratulations to Bayern. Bayern is in a very good moment, a tough team. And we are in a moment of trouble, because we are competing good in the EuroCup and we are still with zero wins in the [Italian] League. We gave them some possessions in the first quarter. We played the first quarter and the third quarter with the right approach, fighting for every possession with the right focus on offense without stupid turnovers or anything like that. We played a good game for 25 minutes, we need 15 minutes more. Also because next game against Buducnost will be tough and very important to go to the [Top 16]. "
