INSEP Paris never trailed to beat Zemun 82-62, picking up its first victory at the Belgrade NIJT Qualifying Tournament, and making it count as it was worth a place in the semifinals on Saturday. INSEP, Zemun and Buducnost Voli Podgorica all finished Group A with 1-2 record, but INSEP has the best point difference in head-to-head games against those two teams. The French side needed an 11-point win to advance, and it was up by 15 before the end of the first quarter, 28-13. Lead reached 53-25 at halftime, and INSEP never looked back, cruising to victory as Jonathan Jeanne netted 17 points in 15 minutes, while Ywen Smock had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Stephane Gombauld scored 12, while Luc Loubaki and Lucas Dussoulier scored 11 apiece. Aleksa Bojicic had 12 points, while Ivan Gavrilovic scored 11 for Zemun which will play on Sunday for the seventh place.
INSEP dominated in the paint early with Cyrille Elizier-Vanerot, Ywen Smock and Stephane Gombauld, and a triple from Lucas Dussoulier helped made it 16-6. Nikola Cirkovic and Nikola Stankovic scored for Zemun, but more baskets from Gombauld extended it to 28-14 after the first quarter. Buckets from Aleksa Bojicic, Ivan Gavrilovic and Cirkovic cut it to 28-20, but a triple from Jonathan Jeanne sparked an 13-1 run that got INSEP to 41-21. Bojicic scored for Zemun which could allow itself a 10-point loss and still advance, but Jeanne nailed another three, Smock had a dunk, before Arthur Leboeuf had a jumper and a triple in the final 20 seconds of the half for 53-25. Triple from Eliezer-Vanerot and Leboeuf extended it to 63-30 in the third, before Uros Vidovic hit from downtown for Zemun, sparking its 0-9 run. INSEP held 66-41 going into the fourth quarter, and after Bojicic hit for three to start the final period, Jeanne’s third triple ignited and his dunk capped a 9-0 run for 75-44, sealing the deal. Zemun finished the game on a 3-10 spurt, but it was too little too late.
