U18 INSEP Paris overcame a 15-point first quarter deficit to book its first victory of the 2016 EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Finals by beating U18 Zalgiris Kaunas 83-80 in overtime. Jaylen Hoard scored 17 points to lead INSEP, which trailed 0-15 to start the game but improved to 1-1 in Group A. Sekou Doumbouya collected 14 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks, Bathiste Tchouaffe scored 14 points, Ivan Fevrier added 11 points, Ludovic Beyhurst had 10 points and Olivier Sarr chipped in 7 points and 10 rebounds for INSEP. Zalgiris dropped to 1-1 in the group despite 28 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists from Gytis Masilius and 24 points and 5 assists from Arnas Velicka. Ignas Sargiunas added 14 points in the loss while Lukas Uleckas picked up 9 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals in the loss.

INSEP started ice cold while Zalgiris had Masiulis effective in the early going with 6 of the team’s first 8 points. And Velicka’s triple pushed the lead to 0-11 and an INSEP time out. Zalgiris extended the advantage to 0-15 while INSEP missed its first 11 shots and turned it over 6 times before finally getting on the scoreboard with 2 free throws by Sarr with 3:18 minutes left in the quarter. INSEP’s first basket was Doumbouya’s three-pointer at the 2:16 mark to make it 6-17. Beyhurst finished the first quarter with a three-ball as INSEP scored the last 9 points to close within 12-17. Masilius’s three-pointer opened the second quarter and his next basket made it 14-22. INSEP responded with the next 8 points, including a three-point play from Hoard to get to within 20-22. A Velicka triple started an 0-7 spurt as Zalgiris was back up 22-31. And back-to-back three-pointers from Velicka had Zalgiris ahead 26-39. Doumbouya hit back with a three-ball and his next score had the deficit down to 36-40. The cushion was 38-45 at intermission after Sargiunas’s three-pointer.

Dziugas Slavinskas opened the second half with a three-pointer to re-establish a 10-point lead 38-48. Tchouaffe came back down at the other end with 3 free throws and Fevrier followed with 3 baskets as INSEP was down just 47-48. Uleckas stopped the surge with a three-pointer but Saar evened the game at 51-51 and INSEP took its first lead on a big breakaway dunk from Hoard to make it 53-51. Uleckas answered with another three-ball and he hit from long range again to give Zalgiris a 56-57 cushion after 30 minutes. Masiulis’s free throws opened the final frame for a 56-59 lead before Hoard and Fevrier scored to put the French side up 62-61. Beyhurst knocked down a triple to make it 65-63 and he scored for a 67-65 lead. Velicka evened the game with 2 free throws but INSEP nosed ahead 71-67 on 2 Tchouaffe free throws and a dunk by Thimotee Bazille. After Velicka split 2 free throws with 1:11 left to make it 71-70, Sarr tipped in a miss for a 3-point lead. Sargiunas knotted the game with a three-ball from the right corner with 47 seconds to play. And Beyhurst’s jumper at the buzzer was off target, sending the game to overtime. Masiulis opened the extra session with a basket but Doumbouya scored 3 points and Tchouaffe knocked down a three-ball to put INSEP up 79-75. Masiulis answered with a three-ball and added 2 free throws to make it 81-80. But Tchouaffe got a tough layup to fall with 36 seconds left for a 83-80 lead and Zalgiris missed 4 three-pointers in the final 22 seconds.
