Semen Antonov - Nizhny Novgorod - EC13 (photo Nizhny Novgorod)Despite a somewhat balanced first half, Nizhny Novgorod rolled in the third quarter with a 21-6 partial score to blast Buducnost Voli Podgorica by 83-62 at home in a Group F game played Wednesday. The win lifts Novgorod to a 2-1 record while Buducnost dropped to 1-2. Semen Antonov led the winners with 20 points, Primoz Brezec added 16, Dijon Thompson contributed a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards, Brandon Paul hit 12 and Petr Gubanov 11. For Buducnost, Vladimir Mihailovic had 17 points and Aleksandar Capin added 10.

Nizhny Novgorod started with a good tempo with Semen Antonov leading the offense of the hosts. Four straight free throws by Primoz Brezec made it 10-4 and six straight point by Antonov soon launched Novgorod to 26-12. For Buducnost it had to be Nikola Ivanovic from the stripe the one to stop the bleeding and make it 26-14 after 10 minutes. Brezec was the main pillar the hosts had to turn to when Buducnost had pulled within 31-28 after Bojan Subotic's bucket. Novgorod recovered quickly and sent the lead back to double digits, which was kept until the halftime break, 47-36. The third quarter was a storm created by the hosts that started with a 10-0 run until a Brandon Paul three made it 68-42 after 30 minutes. Brandon opened the last period with a new three, but the final quarter was dominated by defenses. Novgorod's power under the boards allowed the hosts to outrebound Buducnost who, at the same time, struggled from the arc all night. In the last minutes of the game, the hosts managed the lead until the final buzzer to escape with another win.

"The key to success in this game was the ratio of rebounds between the two teams. We had double our rival in this aspect, therefore, the only thing we had to do with such a large advantage in the three-seconds zone was just to bring the fight to its logical conclusion. On the other hand, we had plenty of difficulties. I did not like our game in the final minutes, when we did not realize our good situation. Such moments do worry me in the run-up to the next matches, because more serious competitors will not forgive these gaps in our game."
JOVOVIC, IGOR
Buducnost Voli Podgorica
"Losing in the first half, we tried to get back into the game. And in the second quarter we were about to realize our plan. But then again our opponent looked better on the court. We have to admit that today Buducnost lost to Nizhny Novgorod in almost every aspect of basketball , so I should only congratulate the opponent on this well-deserved victory."

Players

GOLOVIN, DMITRY
Nizhny Novgorod
"We tried to play with full dedication. We succeeded in some moments, and we also failed sometimes; just look at the second quarter. The opponent didn't shoot at a good percentage, so it was a bit easier for us to defend. However, for us it is obvious that Buducnost didn't demonstrate all its best qualities. I'm sure that the return game in Montenegro will be much harder."
POPOVIC, ALEKSA
Buducnost Voli Podgorica
"We started the game very poor. We played worse in one-to-one defense and couldn’t communicate well between us. Having missed a plenty of shots in the first quarter, we made an attempt to come back into the game but, Nizhny Novgorod kept control over the game. So, it was really hard for us to catch up."
