The 2010 champion INSEP Paris tipped off its ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT with a big second half in pulling away for a 70-55 victory over VEF Riga. INSEP led by just two points at the break but moved to 1-0 in Group A play. Stephane Gombauld had 20 points and nine rebounds and Killian Tillie collected 18 points, seven rebounds and five steals for INSEP. Luc Lubaki chipped in nine points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals. VEF fell to 0-1 despite eight points, four rebounds and three assists from Rodions Kurucs. Zigmars Raimo had 13 rebounds but made just 2-of-12 shots for five points.

After VEF went ahead 6-2 to start the game the lead changed hands three times. INSEP was leading 10-14 after a Timothe Vergiat basket. And the advantage was 11-16 after two Tillie free throws. VEF was able to tie the game at 16-16 after one quarter as Karlis Silins nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer. Bathiste Tchouaffe increased the lead to 18-22 for INSEP and the Paris team never let Riga go ahead in the quarter. Part of the reason was that VEF split two free throws eight times and went 0-for-2 on another occasion for a 8-of-18 free throw shooting performance in the first half, which ended with INSEP up 27-29.

Gombauld scored the first 10 points of the second half to give INSEP a 27-39 lead. VEF finally got on the board in the third quarter with two free throws at the 6:05 minute mark. INSEP continued its push as Tchouaffe nailed back-to-back three-pointers and Tchouaffe and Jeanne both made a free throw as INSEP increased the margin to 33-48. A Kristers Zorkis foul shot trimmed the gap to 39-48 but Vergiat knocked down a trey at the third quarter buzzer for a 39-51 lead. INSEP opened the fourth on a 13-0 run thanks to two three-pointers from Tillie and seven points from Luc Lubaki for a 39-64 advantage. VEF did not get closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
