Buducnost improved to 2-1 in Group E and tied for the second spot with Allianz Swans Gmunden by topping Benetton Olympic Fribourg 73-82 in Switzerland on Tuesday. Buducnost improved to 2-1 while Fribourg dropped to 1-2 and now ties with Hapoel Galil Elyon for the fourth spot in Group E. Vladislav Dragojlovic paced the winners with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Bojan Bakic added 16 points, Vladimir Micov had 12 while Ivan Maras barely missed a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds for Buducnost. Ken Johnson had 23 points, 8 rebounds and 8 blocks for Fribourg, David Esterkamp added 20 points and 9 rebounds while Harold Mrazek scored 10 points for the hosts. Buducnost led 38-54 at halftime and even when Mrazek and Esterkamp managed to get Fribourg within 73-78 in the final 2 minutes, the hosts could not complete its comeback. A critical basket by Maras and free throws by Nikola Otasevic and Bakic helped Buducnost to cruise to an important win.

Dragojlovic and Micov fueled a 2-6 opening run for Buducnost but a power layup by Marcus Sloan and 5 quick points by Esterkamp allowed Fribourg to get a 9-8 edge. Dragojlovic kept pacing Buducnost while Nemanja Gordic scored for a 11-16 Buducnost lead. A 7-0 run that Sloan capped with free throws put Olympic back ahead, 18-16. Esterkamp stepped up with a put-back basket while Sloan scored off a steal to make Fribourg regain the lead, 22-21, after 10 minutes. Maras had 7 quick points while Vladimir Dasic scored inside to give the guests a double-digit margin, 24-34. Fribourg struggled to score while Dragojlovic and Bakic combined for 8 quick points to break the game open, 25-42, after a game-breaking 3-21 run. Fribourg improved its offense but Bakic and Dragoljovic allowed the guests to keep a 38-54 margin at halftime. Johnson and Sloan tried to ignit the hosts' comeback but Dragojlovic and a third-chance layup by Dasic made Buducnost keep a 44-60 lead. Esterkamp and Mrazek scored from downtown in a 8-0 run that gave Fribourg some hope, 54-62. It didn't last long, however, as Maras stepped up with consecutive layups while Marko Popovic added a triple to keep Buducnost out of trouble, 58-69, after 30 minutes. Johnson and Mrazek got the hosts even closer, 62-69. Dragojlovic stepped up with a three-point play and Nemanja Gordic added a put-back layup but Esterkamp and Mrazek got Fribourg within 73-78. Maras shined with a key basket while free throws by Otasevic and Bakic sealed the outcome.

Head Coaches

LEYROLLES, DAMIEN
Benetton Fribourg
"It was a very good team with a very good defense. We lost the game in the second quarter because we didn't play during ten minutes and in the ULEB Cup this is not allowed because the level is very high during the whole game. We won three of the four quarters and we lost one by 16 points. That's the key of the game."
RADONJIC, DEJAN
Buducnost
"It was a very good game and a big success! I'm very happy tonight. Our defense was very proficient. In the first half, the offensive game was excellent and during the second half the defense worked very well."

Players

ESTERKAMP, DAVID
Benetton Fribourg
"The second quarter killed us! It would have been possible to win the game if we had tried to keep contact with the score during the second part. At the end we tried to came back but without success."
MARAS, IVAN
Buducnost
"We didn't start the game very well. Fribourg is a quality team but we made the important points in the important moments. We always kept the game under control."
