Ian Vougioukas - Unics Kazan - EC13 (photo Kalev Cramo)Unics Kazan led from start to finish, downing Kalev Cramo Tallin 72-81 on Tuesday. Victory improved Unics to 3-0 in Group G, while Kalev Cramo dropped to 0-3. The visitors hit four three-pointers in the first quarter, building 12-31 margin after 10 minutes. Even though the host rallied and cut it within 3 points in the third quarter, Unics never relinquished the lead. Andrew Goudelock paced the visitors in victory, netting 20 points on 4-for-5 three-pointers, including the one that sealed the deal in the final minute. Ian Vougioukas scored 15 and Kostas Kaimakoglou chipped in with 10 for Unics. Frank Elegar led the hosts with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Vlad Moldoveanu had 18 points plus 7 rebounds.

Unics took control from the start as Tywain McKee and Goudelock each hit a three-pointer and a pair of free throws, and the visitors took 2-12 lead. Elegar and Tanel Sokk tried to get the hosts going, but Unics was on a spree, scoring on 10 of its 11 possessions. Vougioukas and Luke Harangody each scored 5 points, before a triple from Evgeny Kolesnikov and a layup from Chuck Eidson made it 12-31 at the end of the first quarter. Devin Gibson hit a triple to start the second, and Kalev Cramo scored 7 consecutive points before baskets from Bamba Fall and Ty Abbott's three helped cut it to 28-37 midway through the quarter. However, Vougioukas scored a basket-plus-foul and a put-back, helping Unics go into halftime up 33-43. In the opening minutes of the third quarter, Moldoveanu and Gibson sparked more offense for Kalev Cramo, and a triple from Abbott got them within 44-47, but a jumper from Nikos Zisis and a triple from Goudelock helped the visitors get some breathing room. Abbott and Goudelock traded triples for 54-63 at the end of the third quarter, and teams traded baskets before Vladimir Vermeenko made a dunk for 61-72 with less than 5 minutes to go. The hosts were not giving up, as Elegar scored 7 points, including a basket-plus foul that got them to 70-74 with 78 seconds remaining, however Goudelock answered with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession, sealing the deal.

Head Coaches

VARRAK, ALAR
Kalev Cramo Tallinn
"First 5 minutes we didn't play good at all, and eventually it cost us the game. I have said many times before, if we want to play equal or better than those high level teams we are facing in Eurocup, we need to execute very well in all the details."
TRINCHIERI, ANDREA
UNICS Kazan
"Kalev Cramo is very tough to play in Tallinn. I think no team will have easy time here. I think Elegar and Moldoveanu had an amazing game on their side, and I also have to congratulate Kalev's coach for the job well done."

Players

MOLDOVEANU, VLAD
Kalev Cramo Tallinn
"We need to figure out how to win now. Few games in a row, we play so good for 35 minutes, but totally collapse in the other 5 minutes. Today it was the beginning of the game where everything went wrong. If we can put it all together we have a chance to beat some good teams."
