U18 Torrons Vicens L'Hospitalet remained in the race for the semifinals of the EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Torneig de Bàsquet Junior Ciutat de L'Hospitalet by knocking off U18 Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens 76-65 early on Saturday. The hosts from L'Hospitalet got their first victory in Group B thanks to 24 points from Jose Sanchez while Pablo Fontanet collected 12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 1 block. L'Hospitalet improved to 1-1 in the group and still can finish in the top two in Group B as it faces U18 Cedevita Zagreb in the final game of group play later Saturday. Georgios Kalaitzakis poured in 16 points with 7 rebounds for Panathinaikos, which dropped to 0-2 but is not yet eliminated from the semifinals ahead of its final game against U18 Divina Seguros Joventut Badalona.

Sanchez picked up 8 points as L'Hospitalet jumped ahead 13-5. Alfredos Pilavios brought Panathinaikos back into the game with 6 points and Kalaitzakis's three-pointer cut the gap to 15-14. The host team was still leading after 10 minutes 19-18. L'Hospitalet used the three-ball to pull away in the second quarter as Sergi Tell hit twice from downtown. Raul Verano and Carlos Rubira both nailed three-pointers, as well, in building a 41-26 advantage. The lead was 43-32 at intermission. Ioannis Chatziveroglou tried to keep Panathinaikos close but Fontanet had a big third quarter, which ended with the host team ahead 63-47. Panathinaikos had one more run in it as Efstratios Politopoulos and Pilavios brought the Greek team to within 69-62 with 2 minutes to play. But Sanchez scored twice and Panathinaikos failed to convert its next two possessions for the loss.
