Newcomer Radnicki Kragujevac defended its home court in style, sinking 13 three-pointers en route to one of the biggest victories in club history, 97-80 triumph over Spartak St. Petersburg on Tuesday. With second consecutive win, Radnicki improved to 2-1 in Group H, grabbing at least a share of second place, while Spartak dropped its second consecutive game, and now holds 1-2 record. The hosts finished the first quarter with an 11-0 run, taking control of encounter, and never let Spartak get closer than 6 points rest of the way. Sava Lesic paced the winners with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Mouphtaou Yarou collected 20 points plus 10 rebounds, Dusan Mladjan netted 20, shooting triples 6 of 9, while Nikola Kalinic scored 14 for Radnicki. Steven Burtt scored 24 points for the visitors, Jared Homan had 16, and Andrey Koshcheev 12 points. Artem Yakovenko with 11, and Donald McGrath with 10 points, also scored in double-digits in defeat.
Radnicki had a quick start, with Lesic, Kalinic and Marko Marinovic all scoring from downtown in the opening 3 minutes for 11-6. Yaroslav Korolev and Homan sparked Spartak's offense, but after Yakovenko hit a three-pointer for the visitors and 15-15, the hosts finished the first quarter on an 11-0 run. Spurt included more triples from Lesic and Kalinic, before Yarou scored inside on the opening possession of the second quarter for 28-15. Lesic and Yarou kept Radnicki with a double-digit lead, but Steven Burtt nailed a three-pointer for Spartak, and together with Koshcheev combined to score 11 points and come within 34-28. But Yarou, Kalinic and a triple from Dusan Mladjan pushed the margin back into double figures, and the hosts held 45-33 halftime lead. Burtt scored 7 more points at the start of the second half, but a triple and a jumper from Mladjan helped keep Radnicki ahead, 56-44. Burtt added a triple, before Homan and Yakovenko cut it to 63-56. However, Lesic nailed a triple for the hosts to enter the final quarter up by 10, then scored from downtown in the fourth for 75-58. Before game’s end, Mladjan nailed three more triples, as the lead twice reached 20 points in the closing minutes.
