FC Barcelona Regal beat OKK Spars Sarajevo 53-49 on Day 2 of the 2013 edition of the Nike International Junior Tournament on Friday afternoon at the London Soccerdome outside The O2. With the win Barcelona took a 2-0 record in Group B, while Spars dropped to 1-1. On Saturday Barcelona will meet INSEP Paris, while Spars meets Team England. Marc Garcia had 21 points with 5 rebounds for the winners and Ludde Hakanson added 12 points. Nedim Buza scored 14 points for the losing side, while Doko Salic finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds. It was a low-scoring game from the start as both teams competed with all they had. Garcia put Barcelona on top 15-9 in the last minute of the opening quarter before Hakanson led his team to a 21-11 lead. Salic and Buza connected points in the second quarter when both teams combined for only 12 points to finish the half up 22-16. Spars opened the second half with 6 points in a row to level the score, and a three pointer by Buza put them on top on the way to a 25-32 lead behind a 1-10 run. Garcia scored 5 points in a row to bring Barcelona close again by the end of the third quarter, and added back-to-back three-pointers to start the fourth quarter and put Barcelona in front 36-32, scoring all 11 of his team’s points in the run. Salic and Buza scored again, but Spars had to chase Barcelona, and managed to only cut the gap to 49-47 with 23 seconds to play after Atif Durak hit a shot from the arc. Durak missed another attempt from long range that could have put Spars above with 11 seconds to go, and Garcia secured the win for Barcelona on the other side.
