Duncan, Wanamaker lead Bamberg past CAI

Brose Baskets Bamberg improved to 3-2 in Group A by downing CAI Zaragoza 90-74 at home on Wednesday. Bamberg stayed undefeated at home while CAI dropped to 2-3. Josh Duncan led the winners with 21 points. Bradley Wanamaker added 12, 6 rebounds and 10 assists, Daniel Theis had 11 points while Karsten Tadda got 10 for Bamberg. Chris Goulding led CAI with 25 points. Kevin Lisch added 17 while Marcus Landry had 10 for the guests. Tadda and Wanamaker fueled a 16-3 opening run which Trevor Mbakwe capped with a dunk. Goulding stepped up with 11 points late in the first quarter to get CAI within 24-16. It didn't last long, as Ryan Thompson, Tadda and Theis led a 13-0 run which broke the game open, 35-14, early in the second quarter, enough to keep a 45-32 margin at halftime. Goulding and Lisch managed to bring CAI within 52-45 but Bamberg boosted its margin to 62-49 after 30 minutes and then again to 75-52 midway through the fourth quarter, enough to seal the outcome.

Tadda and Elias Harris fueled a 6-0 opening run. Lisch answered from downtown but Thompson and Wanamaker soon forced CAI to call timeout at 12-3. Wanamaker scored again and a dunk by Mbakwe capped a 16-3 Bamberg run. CAI found a go-to guy in Goulding, who had 6 unanswered points and soon added a jumper for a 19-11 deficit. Theis and Goulding exchanged triples and a layup by Thompson restored a double-digit Bamberg lead, 24-14, after 10 minutes. Tadda, Wanamaker and Theis combined for all points in an 11-0 run which broke the game open, 35-14. Henk Norel hit a jump hook and a jumper by Jason Robinson made Bamberg call timeout at 35-18. Goulding and Norel kept pacing CAI and a three-pointer by Lisch brought the guests closer, 39-28. Tadda and Duncan, however, allowed Bamberg to reach halftime with a 45-32 margin. A layup-plus-foul by Mbakwe and a basket by Thompson made it an 18-point game, 50-32, right after the break. A jumper by Lisch sparked an 0-8 run which Goulding capped with free throws to bring CAI back to life, 50-40. Theis made free throws but Marcus Landry and a red hot Goulding brought CAI even closer, 52-45. Josh Shipp stepped up with back-to-back three-pointers and consecutive baskets by Duncan gave Bamberg some fresh air, 62-49, after 30 minutes. Duncan stayed on fire early in the fourth quarter and free throws by Janis Strelnieks sealed the outcome, 70-52, with 8 minutes left. Theis dunked and another triple by Shipp boosted the hosts' lead to 75-52. Nothing changed from that moment, as Bamberg had cruised to a well-deserved win.

"We played a high-quality game and we took advantage of the problems of Zaragoza. They were missing one player and a half. That is the reality. But sometimes teams are not able to take advantage, so this is not a bad thing. We did our job. Sometimes I have the feeling that we can do better, because we play very well for five, seven, 10 minutes, we milk the cow; we do that perfectly. But then an alien comes to earth, we lose the momentum, from 25 we got to 7. We kicked the bucket with the milk and we have to milk the cow again. "

" Congratulations to Brose Baskets. They played very well and it was very difficult to play here. They are one of the best teams in our group for sure and today we had problems with our rebounding. "
