Union Olimpija recorded its first - and only - win at the 2009 Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Tournament final by edging Hemofarm Stada 60-65 in the final Group A game at the Velodrom on Saturday. Both teams joined a three-way tie for second place along with La Caja de Canarias Gran Canaria, all at 1-2 behind undefeated Group A champion Lietuvos Rytas. Nejc Buda paced the winners with 16 points. Mirza Sarajlija and Miha Glavas each added 13 while Andriy Lebedintsev had 10 for Olimpija. Danilo Andusic had 16 points for Hemofarm, Petar Lambic added 14 while Milan Vulic got 13 for the Serbian powerhouse. Both teams knew that they had no chances to advance to the title game in the o2 World on Sunday, as Lietuvos Rytas had thrashed Gran Canaria in the previous game in the opposite court. Despite hitting 1-for-10 three-pointers in the first half, Hemofarm led 29-22 at halftime. Sarajlija had been scoreless until that moment but stepped up in the third quarter. He got some help from Buda and Glavas for a 44-48 edge after 30 minutes. Hemofarm managed to get within 54-55 but a key basket by Buda and a big triple by Sarajlija put Olimpija ahead for good, 54-62. Hemofarm made it a three-point game, 60-63, in the final seconds but a layup by Glavas sealed the outcome down the stretch.
