Le Mans made it to the Last 16 in Group A by edging EWE Baskets Oldenburg 71-73 on the road on Tuesday. Oldenburg rallied in crunch time and free throws by Lukauskis tied it at 71-71. Marc-Antoine Pellin became the game hero by hitting the game-winning free throws down the stretch.

Stevic shined with a put-back layup and McNaughton got Oldenburg within 6-7. Robin Smeulders dunked it early in the second quarter but a put-back basket by Thierry Rupert and a jumper by Dewar gave Le Mans a 22-26 edge. Lukauskis struck from downtown and Eddie Gill added a three-point play in an 8-0 run that allowed Oldenburg to regain the lead, 30-26. Pellin and Lukauskis traded baskets but a layup-plus-foul by Charles Kahudi kept Le Mans as close as 32-31. Dewar and Rupert shined with back-to-back baskets but a triple by Daniel Hein and a layup by Lukauskis provided another lead change, 37-35. An unstoppable Dewar buried a triple but Lukauskis followed a jumper with free throws for a 41-38 Oldenburg lead at halftime.

Back-to-back baskets by Batista put Le Mans back ahead, 41-42, right after the break. Stevic scored again and McNaughton added a layup but Antoine Diot answered from downtown for a 45-45 tie. Batista stayed unstoppable and got some help from Acker and a red hot Diot to give Le Mans a 45-52 lead, after a 0-10 run. Stevic tried to change things and Paulding downed a three-pointer that brought Oldenburg within 50-52. Koffi hit free throws, igniting a 0-8 run in which Kakiouzis and Acker buried respective triples for a 50-60 score. Kakiouzis singlehandedly allowed Le Mans to keep a 54-64 margin after 30 minutes. Gill shined with a layup and Lukauskis added a jumper but a three-pointer by Dewar kept Le Mans way ahead, 58-67. Paulding scored down low and bettered Batista's layup with a triple, good for a 63-69 score. Paulding stayed on fire and got some help from Lukauskis in a 6-0 run that brought the hosts as close as 69-70 already in the final minute. Acker split free throws but Lukauskis did not miss from the foul line for a 71-71 tie. Le Mans called timeout and found a go-to guy in Pellin, who drew a foul and calmly made free throws. Oldenburg had a last chance to win the game but Paulding missed from downtown at the buzzer.

"This was a good game, especially for the fans. I’m sorry that we lost a close game, I would have liked to finish the Eurocup season with a win. My team played well in the first half and the fourth quarter. We made to many mistakes and gave up too many easy baskets in the third. Plus, some of my players were sick this week. Nonetheless I want to congratulate my players for a strong performance tonight."
JACKSON, JD
Le Mans
"This was a very important win for us. We needed this for our confidence, because we are not in a good position in the French league. But I think we played a good eurocup season so far. We won four out of six games. I wish Oldenburg all the best and think that with the addition of those two players, the team will pick it up a notch after Christmas!"

Players

McNAUGHTON, CHRIS
EWE Baskets
"We wanted to get out with our second win in this competition. It was close and we had the chance to win in the last seconds, but Le Mans defended to good. I think we played a very good first half and a good fourth quarter. Only the third quarter we can not be satisfied with. 73 points at home is too much."
DEWAR, BEN
Le Mans
"We knew this game would be much tougher then the first game at our arena. Oldenburg got a very good team with some strong big men. Eddie Gill seems to be a good addiction to the roster. The guards were playing very aggressive, what made it very hard for us to play our game. But we hit some difficult shots and won the game. Now we are looking forward to the Last 16."
