INSEP wrote its debut win in the Nike International Junior Tournament behind an 81-79 overtime victory over Cajasol Seville to take a 1-1 record and stay in the race for the title game, while Cajasol dropped to 0-2 on Friday afternoon in Paris, France. INSEP will take on Zalgiris Kaunas tomorrow and the winner will advance to the final from Group B, while Cajasol will meet with Union Olimpija. INSEP used a 9-0 overtime run to delete a 7 point difference and take the key win after a game of ups and downs on both ends of the floor. Livio Jean-Charles led the way for the winners with 17 points, Ulysse Adjagba and Mathis Keita added 15, Hugo Invernizzi had 11 with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Cajasol saw Pablo Villarejo shine with 31 points, Gabriel Darin added 14 and Manuel Gonzalez finished with 13.
Cajasol was the first to react to the tip off with the first 7 points of the game, but soon enough Mathis Keita scored from the arc and helped his team tie the score at 17-17. Villarejo hit a three pointer to cap the first quarter score right afterwards, but Keita and Jean-Charles kept INSEP right behind. Two minutes with no points scored for any side late in the first half, showed that the upcoming rest will only benefit the players, as INSEP took a 34-32 half time lead. INSEP used good minutes by Adjagba to make a run, and reach an 8 point lead, but Cajasol answered with 9 points in a row. The players of the French academy answered with a 9-0 run at the end of the third, and a three pointer by Invernizzi made it 63-54 with 7 minutes to play. Villarejo decided to step up, scored from the perimeter and then attacked the rim to collect 14 points in a row for him team and tie the score at 68-68. Keita scored twice but Manuel Gonzalez answered with the same coin, and in the closing seconds added a big steal that could have won the game, but Invernizzi came out of nowhere to block Villarejo's lay up and force overtime. Cajasol started the extra period with 7 points in a row, to take a 72-79 lead, but fell in asleep too soon. Invernizzi hit a three point shot, Adjagba slashed and added a point from the foul line, and the gap was just one point now. Another lay up by Invernizzi already put INSEP on top and Jean-Charles added another from the charity stripe to cap a huge 9-0 run to win the game, before Cajasol missed two chances to win the game.
