The defending Torneo Citta di Roma champion KK Spars Sarajevo picked up its first win of the tournaments, topping Virtus Siena 39-58 on Saturday. Victory secured Spars at least the third place in Group A, and it will be second if FC Bayern Munich defeats Stella Azzura Basketball Academy Rome. Meanwhile, Siena will play for the seventh place on Sunday morning. Spars controlled things for majority of the contest, as Edin Atic led the way with 24 points, 15 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 blocks. Amar Gegic scored 15, while Enis Memic chipped in with 10 points. Pierfrancesco Oliva had 13 points plus 7 boards in defeat. Atic scored Spars’ first 8 points, and Memic made it 5-12. Oliva and Tommaso Gauriglia helped tied it at 12-12 by the end of the first quarter, before teams started trading baskets in the second. Andrea Ceccatelli hit a jumper to give Siena 21-20, but Atic buried a triple and a jumper before quarter’s end, giving Spars 26-29 halftime lead. After the break, Mirsad Pilavdzic, Memic and Atic converted on three of the first 4 trips down the floor for 28-35. Gegic followed it up, first extended the margin into double digits, then, scoring a fastbreak layup for 29-42. Siena cut it to 33-42 through a put-back by Amadeo De Martino and a fastbreak layup from Giorgio Mucci, but at the start of the fourth Atic hit a triple before Gegic and Memic increased the lead to 33-49. From that point on, Spars cruised to victory.
