U18 Canarias Basketball Academy Las Palmas grabbed its first victory of the EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Kaunas with a strong 81-61 win over U18 VEF Riga. Wang Xiaoyi nailed six three-pointers in scoring 18 points for CBA, which improved to 1-2 in Group B to secure third place in the group. Danilo Brnovic added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for CBA, which will finish its ANGT Kaunas on Saturday with the game for fifth place against the third placed team from Group A. VEF lost its third straight game despite Oskars Hlebovickis scoring 12 points. VEF will take on U18 Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt for seventh place.

Hlebovickis and Rodrigo Bumeisters both knocked down three-pointers early on to give VEF a 6-10 lead. After CBA answered with the next 7 points to pull ahead 13-10, Valters Veveris drained two three-balls for VEF but CBA was still up 18-16 after 10 minutes. Edvards Mezulis scored 4 points and another Veveris triple kept VEF close at 24-23. But Diego Willis and Brnovic combined for 9 points in a 15-1 spurt for a 39-24 cushion. The gap at the break was 39-27. Wang took over the game early in the second half with four three-pointers as CBA pushed the advantage out to 17 points 49-32 and led 52-36. VEF worked to get back into the game and trailed just 56-48 after three quarters. CBA did not let up with Willis and Antonio Alvarez hitting triples in pushing the gap to 67-48. Hlebovickis tried to get VEF back in the game with three three-pointers to trip the deficit to 67-57. But Wang countered with two more triples and the advantage was 78-59 in the final moments.
