SLUC Nancy handed Deutsche Bank Skyliners another heartbreaking home loss in Group D, 83-84 on Tuesday night in front of 2,410 fans in Frankfurt, Germany. Nancy improved to 2-2 and has sole possession of third place in the group standings, while the Skyliners fell to 0-4. The game went back and forth as late as the fourth quarter, but after Dominik Bahiense de Mello fouled out, Nancy was able to stop Derrick Allen, while Terence Parker and Zabian Dowdell scored clutch points. Ricardo Greer led five Nancy scorers in double digits with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, Jeff Greer and Cyril Julian added 11 each and Dowdell and Mike Bauer had 10 apiece. Allen was the best man on court with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists, de Mello posted 17 points on 5-of-5 three-point shooting and Elian Evitmov also scored 17.

Nancy started out hot on offense and led 7-14 after four minutes until Allen snapped it with two successful free-throws that started a 7-0 run for the Skyliners to tie the score at 14-14. Soon it was raining triples, as both teams scored three long distance shots each, with Jeff Greer and de Mello getting two apiece as the first quarter ended with the visitors ahead 25-29. De Mello kept his hot hand in the second quarter with his fourth consecutive triple for a 35-33 Skyliners lead. De Mello had one more in the tank as the hosts took control and led 51-43 at the half. The third quarter was marked by fierce defense on both sides. Nancy had the better start but the Skyliners maintained their lead. Amadou Aboubacar scored 5 consecutive points for Nancy to start a 0-9 run and close the gap to 63-62. Continuous turnovers by the hosts and successful attacks by the guests had the scoreboard showing 67-68 after 30 minutes. Aboubacar continued to be a presence on offense, scoring off put-backs and limiting Allen on defense, as the lead switched sides. Alex King scored a rare three-pointer as the shot clock expired, bringing the crowd to its feet, but Parker answered in the same manner for the visitors. However it was Dowdell who scored twice from the charity stripe with 1:14 left to go, enough for Nancy to escape with a 83-84 road win.

Head Coaches

DIDIN, MURAT
Skyliners Frankfurt
"My compliments go to Dominik Bahiense de Mello, who hustled very well despite being injured. We are in the toughest group in the ULEB Cup, together with league leaders from all over Europe. Alex King didn't see Derrick Allen having a mismatch under the basket. You can't buy experience. Well, you can but at a high price. We have to transfer such an experience into our domestic league play."
MONSCHAU, JEAN-LUC
SLUC Nancy
"Congratulations to coach Didin and his team for a great game. We were on the lucky side today. They executed well on offense, bringing their shooters in good positions. We came back quite quickly in the third quarter, so both teams had their chances to win this game. This victory will put us in a better position to qualify for the next round."

Players

DOWDELL, ZABIAN
SLUC Nancy
"We got lucky by them not hitting the last shot. Michael Bauer and Cyril Julian didn’t play much in the second half due to foul trouble but we won the game on defense in the second half. We are definitely looking for an exciting game back home against the Skyliners."
