
Dexia Mons-Hainaut put an end to its Eurocup participation this season in style with a double overtime home win against PGE Turow on Tuesday night by 98-97. The guests dominated for most of the game but Mons managed to complete a long comeback. In the final minutes, the hosts even had a respectable lead, but a final offensive rebound and basket by Ronald Moore tied the game at 74-74 for overtime. In the extra period, Turow started rolling but AJ Slaugher put Mons in the game again almost single-handedly for a second OT at 85-85. In the final period, the hosts managed to hold a slim margin until the end of the game and escape with their second win of the season. Both teams, already eliminated from the Last 16 race before the game, end the season tied at 2-4 in Group H. Warren Carter led the winners with 24 points and 10 rebounds, Sebastien Bellin added 17, Ronell Taylor 15, AJ Slaughter 14 and Shan Foster 10. For Turow, Daniel Kickert had 19 points, Ronald Moore 16, David Jackson 13 and Michal Chylinski 11.
The hosts opened fire with a 4-0 and soon, AJ Slaughter free throws made it 6-2. A 0-5 however capped by Giedrius Gustas allowed PGE Turow to jump ahead for
the first time. From then on, the game was close throughout the first quarter. Dallas Lauderdale slammed for Turow to make it 16-22 but Ronell Taylor free
throws for Mons kept it close once again until a last-second three by Lorenzo Giancaterino made it 21-22 for Turow after 10 minutes. Another three by
Giancaterino helped Mons soar to a starting 26-22 in the quarter, but then came up the Turow steamroller. With a 2-18 run in the following minutes including
threes by Daniel Kickert for 8 points in the burst for him, and a slam by David Jackson to round it out, the guests had gone to a 28-40 double-digit lead.
Despite Turow's poor numbers form the arc, more solid shooting from the mid and short range allowed them to march throughout the quarter up to a 32-45
halftime lead.
A starting 5-0 to the second half allowed Mons to get a little closer, but Michal Chylinski's three for Turow made it 37-50 to keep things the way they were.
A new 7-0 however made it clear that Mons was not to surrender so easily, as two Taylor free throws put the 44-50 in the scoreboard. The guests managed the
situation one more time as Jackson blasted a new three from downtown for 48-57 but the third period reached the ending with a Taylor layup for 50-57. In the
final quarter of the Eurocup season for both teams, the hosts started strong with a 6-0 run capped by Warren Carter's dunk for 56-57. Finally, a slam by Shan
Foster completed the comeback of Mons for the 60-59 forcing Turow's timeout. Despite a 3 of 13 from the arc, Mons worked hard under the boards and was
outrebounding Turow by 33-24. Entering the last three minute of the game, Mons was still dominating by one single point, 62-61, and the run went on with
Sebastien Bellin blasting a three for 68-61. Entering the last minute, Gustas nailed his bomb from downtown to make it 71-66. Turow was farfrom done as
Kickert nailed two free throws for the 72-68 with 34 seconds to go. Ronald Moore had a three for Turow after a Taylor turnover for 72-71, but with 22 seconds
to go Carter hit free throws for 74-71. In the next play it was Kickert who earned a trip to the line with 7 seconds to go. He scored the first one while
missing the second, allowed Moore to grab an offensive board for the 74-74 and send the game into overtime.
Kickert and Moore kept on punishing Mons' rim at the start of the extra session. When Chylinski had his three-point play and Moore added another layup, the score was already 77-85 with 2:25 to go. Slaughter tried to revive Mons, and thanks to the help of a new Bellin three, he did it by tying again at 85-85 with 10 seconds to go. In the final plays nobody scored, so the game reached the second overtime. In the second extra period, it was Mons who started with the upper hand and a 94-90 with 1:27 to go after Ahmad Nivins free throws. Foster made it 96-92 and Chylinski replied for 96-94. With 10 seconds to go, Mons called a timeout and Alexandre Libert hit two free throws for 98-94. Fast enough, Moore blasted a three for Turow and a 98-97 but that was all she wrote as the final buzzer allowed the hosts to escape with their second win of the season.
