Czech champion CEZ Nymburk won its second straight game on Tuesday, topping Belgian champ Telindus Oostende 81-75 to improve to 2-2 in Group F of the ULEB Cup. Ladislav Sokolovsky scored 12 of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to help Nymburk hold off Oostende's final charges and remain in the hunt for a spot in the next stage. At 2-2, the hosts will be at least in a tie for third place when the group's games are over later Tuesday. Nymburk travels to co-group-leader Dynamo Moscow next week. Oostende dropped to 2-2 and will host Red Star next week. The game was close for most of the night, with the hosts mostly in control. After trailing 40-38 at halftime, Oostende started the third period strong and took the lead, but Monty Mack hit a pair of triples during an 11-0 run and Nymburk never trailed again. Oostende would get within 3 in the fourth quarter, but a technical foul on the Oostende bench and the hot hand of Sokolovsky secured the Nymburk win. Radoslav Rancik posted a double-double of 16 and 11 rebounds, Arthur Lee scored 13 and dished 8 assists and Mack added 11 points for the winners. Chuck Davis led Oostende with 14 points, Chris McCray and Jerry Green added 13, Elvir Ovcina 11 and Greg Brunner 10.

The hosts started in style with a Lee basket and a Sokolovsky three and soon led 10-4 after Petr Benda got involved. However Ovcina and Veselin Petrovic kept Oostende within striking distance until Lee capped the period with his third basket, good for a 25-20 advantage. Ales Chan put Nymburk up 7 early in the second period, but McCray's hustle helped Oostende tie the game at 32-32 and even the visitors even took a brief lead after a Davis free throw. Blake Schilb ensured Oostende a 40-38 halftime edge. Davis's triple sparked a 0-7 Oostende spurt to start the third period, but Mack drilled a pair of threes as Nymburk answered with 11 straight points to resume control. McCray still kept Oostende in the picture till free throws by Sokolovsky made it 59-54 heading into the fourth quarter. Back-to-back baskets by Rancik and Sokolovsky to start the last period gave Nymburk a 9-point lead. Brunner and 4 points from Ovcina cut the deficit to 63-60, however a technical foul on the Oostende bench completely changed the momentum. Sokolovsky made free throws and soon a triple to put the hosts up 10 and Oostende never fully recovered.

"I think we came very well prepared for this game. Even though we knew very well what to expect from Oostende tonight we made a lot of unneccessary mistakes that allowed our opponent to score easy points. However, I think we can be very happy about the result because Oostende managed to beat Dynamo, leads the Belgian league and has a long tradition of playing in ULEB Cup. Tonight we were able to hit the long distance shots in contrast with the first two home games. I am again very proud of my players and feel happy for our club. I hope a good number of fans will come to support us in the last home game this year. We are playing for them."

"I think it was a pretty good game even though we did not win at the end. The teams today knew each other well. We lost the game because of lack of agressiveness - to be precise - not using our fouls in moments to stop the game. We could have used our fouls to prevent Nymburk from scoring some points and at the end we paid the price. In general I think we are OK in this league. It is a short competition of 10 rounds in which we played 3 games on the road and home game against group favorite Dynamo and still we managed to survive with 2 wins."
