Union Olimpija keeps Pipan in charge
Jun 24, 2014
Union Olimpija Ljubljana agreed on an extension with head coach Ales Pipan; the sides signed a new two-year deal on Tuesday. Pipan, 55, took over the Olimpija bench in the summer of 2013 and led the club to the Eurocup Last 32 last season as well as the finals of both the Slovenian League and Cup. Now, both club and the coach have a chance to continue the work they have started together. In more than 20 years on the bench, Pipan has coached Maribor, Zlatorog Lasko, Krka, Zagorje and Geoplin Slovan in his native Slovenia, Anwil in Poland and MZT Skopje in FYR Macedonia. For the greater part of the past decade, he has also served as a national team head coach for Slovenia, Poland or FYROM.
"When we agreed on the contract last year, we wanted a long-term cooperation and I am satisfied that the trust is still there and we stay together also in the next seasons," Pipan said. "Our plan is to build a young team, with good chemistry among the players that will fight for every possession."
