D.J. Strawberry signs with Karsiyaka

Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir made another addition to its roster, announcing the signing of reliable veteran scorer D.J. Strawberry for the upcoming season. Turkish side also announced one-year contract extension with Mutlu Demir. An accomplished shooting guard, Strawberry (1.96 meters, 29 years old) has four Eurocup campaigns under his belt, with a career average of 12.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He started last season playing the Eurocup and Adriatic League with Cibona Zagreb of Croatia, before moving to Pau Orthez in France and finishing season with Pirates de Quebradillas in Puerto Rico. He posted 10.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 10 Eurocup games with Cibona, and raised his averages in the French League to 15.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.9 steals. Strawberry has also played for Phoenix in the NBA, Albuquerque of the NBA D-League, Fortitudo Bologna in Italy, Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius in Lithuania and Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel.

Big man Demir (2.10 meters, 26 years old) made his Eurocup debut with Karsiyaka last season. In 16 games coming off the bench, Demir averaged 2.8 points and 1.1 rebounds. He started his professional career with Anadolu Efes, making three Turkish Airlines Euroleague appearances in 2005-06 season, and during his career has previously played for Turkish teams Beykozspor, Banvit, Genc Banvititler, Selcuk University, Bursa, Trabzonspor and Mersin.
